The town of Scottsboro,
Jackson County, was thrown into a furor of excitement on the 18th on
the discovery of the murder of a young man of that city named DUKE
CAMPBELL. The assassin entered the room where the young man was
sleeping and with an axe struck him three terrible blows on the
head. The father of the young man being aroused by the assassin's
blows; rushing into the room where his son was and on entering saw
the murderer rush out of the room with an axe in his hand. He had on
a mask and it is not known whether he was a negro or a white
man.
