FOUR MILE BRANCH

Lauderdale County AL

Four Mile Branch was a small community situated around the ford at Four Mile Branch on the well-traveled Huntsville Road a few miles east of Florence. Wagons would stop in the middle of this ford so as to thoroughly soak their wheels. This helped to tighten these wooden circular frames around the axles. A beautiful waterfall was located at the mouth of Four Mile Branch. This once popular swimming place for boys is now under Wilson Lake. The hill leading from the ford was so steep that it was difficult for early automobiles to ascend it without turning around and backing up the grade. D. Garrett's Grocery was located at Four Mile. During the construction oi wnson uam, warren movea nis store to the Wilson Dam Road.
