HATTIE E. NESBITT , 77, Route 1, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 1986, at her residence following an extended illness. She was a member of Pine Hill Church of Christ and a retired school teacher from the Colbert and Lauderdale County school systems. She was the daughter of the late John and Ola Williams. The service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pine Hill Church of Christ, with Howard Rogers officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Elkins and Son Funeral Home, Florence, directing. The family will receive friends 6-9 p.m. today at the church. Survivors include her husband, Ervin Nesbitt, Waterloo; daughters, Mrs. Barbara Parks, Summerville, Tenn., Mrs. Mary Balentine, Waterloo; brothers, Carl Williams, Waterloo, Ray Williams, Milan, Mich., Clifford Williams, Mishawaka, Ind.; sister, Mrs. Mary Love, Savannah, Tenn.; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild. Bearers are Andy Akins, Jerry Reeves, Kenneth Reeves, Winford Dowdy, Charles Dowdy, Gene Landrum, Griffin Bevis and Wayne Barrier.”

DRUSILLA (BENDALL) NEWBERN , 86, of Florence passed from this life while surrounded by family, following a lengthy illness, to one of peace and comfort on Friday. She was born to Dena and Albert Bendall on June 3, 1922, in the Jonesboro community of Franklin County. Mrs. Newbern lived in the Florence area most of her life. She was married to Willard E. Newbern for 66 years. Mrs. Newbern was employed at Courtland AFB, Mefford's Jewelers, Highland Baptist Church, and Ray's Clothing throughout her career. She always considered her primary duties, the care and well-being of her family and home, a pleasure. She was a longtime member of Highland Baptist Church, where she served as records secretary and Sunday school teacher. Mrs. Newbern was preceded in death by her husband, Willard; daughter, Sabrena; parents, Dena and Albert Bendall; brother, Walter Bendall; and sisters, Fausteen Frye and Glendora Russell. She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Hill and husband Tommy of Huntsville; sons, Clarence E. and wife Sharon of Overland Park, Kan., and Gerald and wife Martha of Florence; brothers, Albert Lee and James Bendall of Birmingham, Will Bendall of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and John Bendall of New Johnsonville, Tenn.; nine grandchildren, Lisa N. Hulman, Jeff Newbern, Cindy N. Inman, Natalie H. Frazier, Charles Hill, Stacy N. Noeth, Kim Newbern, Ben Newbern, and Josh Newbern; and 14 great-grandchildren. Arrangements by Greenview Memorial Funeral Home in Florence. Memorial services in the chapel with Dr. John Brock, the Rev. Chris Underwood, and the Rev. Mike McLemore officiating. Burial at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers: Jeff Newbern, Charles Hill, Ben Newbern, Josh Newbern, Henry Frazier, and Steve Bendall.

WILLARD R. NEWLAND , 35, of 302 E. LaSalle St. died at 11:45 p.m. Sunday in St. Joseph’s Hospital after an illness of nine months. He was born in New Carlisle July 6, 1930, and moved here from New Carlisle 25 years ago. He married Robbie Holcombe Dec. 21, 1951, in Mishawaka. Mr. Newland was employed by the Wheelabrator Corp. for 14 years. He is survived by his wife; two sons, William and Russell, both at home, two daughters, Donna and Shelly, also at home; his father, Clifford G. Newland of Mishawaka; four brothers, James, of South Bend, Paul, of Osceola, Findley, of New Castle, and Clifford, of Elkhart and two half-sisters, Mrs. Robert Tuttle of South Bend and Mrs. Buddy Horvath of Elkhart. Friends may call at the Bubb Funeral Chapel from 7 p.m. today until noon Wednesday, then in the First General Baptist Church from 1 p.m. Wednesday until services there at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Rev. Adolph Lacy will officiate. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.”

THOMAS WILLIAM NEWTON , 30, Melvindale, Michigan, died November 23, 1974 in Melvindale, Michigan. The funeral will be November 27, 1974, with Rev. Virgil Gean conducting the funeral, at Murphy’s Chapel Church, Morrison-Elkins Funeral, Florence, Ala. directing. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Susan Newton; father and mother, Mr. & Mrs. Leonard Newton; son, Master Tommy Newton; brother, Mr. Don Newton:”

THEODORE NORRID , 72, Rt. 5, Florence, died Tuesday at Colonial Manor Hospital. He had been a Free Will Baptist minister 39 years and was a carpenter. He is survived by his wife, Mr. Gertude Fowler Norred; daughters, Mrs. Marjorie Watkins and Mrs. Freida Weaver, both of Florence; four grandchildren; a brother, Clyde Norred, Rt. 5, Florence. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Community Free Will Baptist Church with Adolph Lacy and L.J. Vandiver officiating, Loretto Memorial Chapel directing. The body will be at the home of a granddaughter, Eunice Creasy, until the funeral hour.”

JOHN M. NORTON - Connected with the iron interests in Ironton and Ashland, Ky., and in the Hocking Valley, Steubenville, Birmingham, Ala., Cairo, Ill., and other places. He was one of the principal promoters of the Bird Iron Co.'s furnace at Culbertson, Ohio, for which he served as secretary and treasurer. He was the son of Geo. Norton and was born at Brownsville, Pa., something over 64 years ago. He came to this county with his father while yet a very young man and for a time served as a clerk in the old Iron Bank . . . Also engaged in steamboat business between Marietta and Parkersburg. . . . Survived by loving wife and one son, Hugh, who is cashier in the D. T. & office in this city, and one daughter, Miss Caroline at home. Also survived by several brothers, who are located in the west.
