SERVICES TUESDAY FOR BEN PEARMEN
Native Of DeWitt Had Many Memories

Death called another of DeWitt's oldest citizens, Ben F. Pearman, Monday morning. Mr. Pearman was born near here October 20, 1862 and lived here all his life. He had lived in the residence where he died since he was 13 years of age.
Mr. Pearman, along with other old citizens such as John Smith and Frank Quertermous, knew DeWitt when it was only a few cabins, mostly log, nestled in the woods, no streets, no sidewalks and a court square of mud. He knew DeWitt in romance and tragedy. When he was a boy no fences crossed the vast prairies of the county, and most homes were along or in the timber.
Ben Pearman saw three courthouses in DeWitt and lived to see the face of the prairies change to fields, and fine farm houses spring up all over the land.
Mr Pearman, when a young man, married and there were three children born into his home, two sons and a daughter. His wife and a daughter and son preceeded him in death. Surviving are one son, Ray Pearman of this city, and four grandchildren.
On the lawn at his home when just a young man he planted an oak and some cedar trees. The great oak that shaded him in manhood and under which he watched his happy children play still stands, a monument to the life of this noble old character. The cedars surrendered to the recent storm here.
Mr Pearman was one of those grand old men whose word was his bond. He belonged to the the old Southern school that once made the South the greatest and proudest land on earth. He inherited these stalwart characteristics from his father, Tip Pearman, an ealy settler of the territory.
Funeral services were held at the Essex Funeral home Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Burial was in the DeWitt cemetery.
