ETHEL
MARGARET MADDEN, 80, of Crossett died Friday, March 17,
2000, at the Crossett Leisure Lodge where she had lived for four years
and had been a tremendous help to other patients. Born April 2, 1919,
to Gus, Sr., and Molly Ann Jeffress Culbreath, she was a homemaker and
a charter member of the Beech Street Baptist Church. She was preceded
in death by a daughter, Nicki McLain of Houston, TX, and her husband,
Hugh Madden.
Survivors are a daughter, Leah Chandler of Deatsville, AL; a brother,
Gus E. Culbreath, Jr., of Crossett; three sisters, Betty Briggs of
Crossett, Margie Kalil of Monroe, LA, and Barbara Flemister of Monroe,
LA; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Monday, March 20, in the Beech Street
Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Vest officiating. Pallbearers were Tommy
Lee, Bill Whittington, Raymond Pitchford, Red Wells, Armon Little and
Jim Bob Godwin. Burial followed services at Pinewood Memorial Park,
directed by Jones Funeral Home of Crossett. --Ashley County

KANSAS CITY, KS--
KERMIT COLLINS MARTIN, 68, Pine Bluff, Ark., formerly of Kansas City, Kan., died May 24, 1991, at a hospital in Pine Bluff.
He was born in Ashley County, Ark., and lived in Kansas City, Kan., for
21 years before moving to Pine Bluff in 1974. In this area, Mr. Martin
worked for Rush Sash and Door Co. and a lumber company and was a truck
driver. Later he worked for Hoover Oil Co. in Pine Bluff and the Pine
Bluff Building Material Co. before he retired. He played steel guitar
in a country western band in this area and was a member of the
Nashville (Tenn.) Steel Guitar Club and the Fiddlers Association, Pine
Bluff. He formerly served in the Conservation Civilian Corps.
Survivors include his wife, Rosemary Jones Martin and a son, Brent
Martin, both of the home; two daughters, Wanda Zarr and Linda Stadler
of Kansas City, Kan.; two stepdaughters, Carol Ross and Luann Stone of
Pine Bluff; three sisters, Lois Crane, Little Rock, Ark., Marilyn
Stanley, Pine Bluff, and Juanita Hartless, Rowell, Ark.; six
grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Ralph Robinson Chapel, Pine Bluff; burial in the Snyder (Ark.) Cemetery.

MONTICELLO, AR--
VONNIE
LAVERNE "HONEY" MAXWELL of Monticello was born April 25,
1925, in Drew County. She died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, at Drew
Memorial Hospital at the age of 74 years. She was a retired
secretary-bookkeeper for the University of Arkansas-Monticello, a
member of Eastern Star and a member of First Baptist Church of
Monticello. She was the daughter of the late C.I. Burchfield and Lula
Stone Burchfield.
Survivors include her husband, Louis Maxwell of Monticello; two
daughters, Margaret Edney of Crossett and Betty Lou McFarland of
Searcy; one sister, Inez Harriman of Oxford, MS; three grandsons and
three great grandchildren.
Funeral service were at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral
Home chapel. Burial followed services at the Oakland Cemetery.

LILLIAN
MARIE MCDANIEL, 81, of Crossett, formerly of Harrell, died
Thursday, March 2, 2000, at the Ashley County Medical Center. Born
March 24, 1918, in Bradley County to the late Pate and Fronie Journey
Davis, she was a homemaker and a member of the Union Grove Assembly of
God. She married Floyd McDaniel on May 16, 1936, and he died June 13,
1962.
Survivors are two daughters, Nina Gilbert and Betty Jane Hooks, both of
Crossett; a brother, C. R. Davis of Camden; two sisters, Bertha Davis
of Hampton and Ida Mae Heath of Harrell; five grandchildren and seven
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 3, in the Union Grove
Assembly of God in Cleveland County with Rev. Moss officiating.
Pallbearers included Ronnie Davis, John Parker, Randy Heath, Emmett
Parker, Hershel Parker and Pete Heath. Burial followed services at the
Union Grove Cemetery with arrangements by Frazer's Funeral Home of

LOIS
EVA FRANKLIN MOYERS, 76, of Hamburg, widow of Hugh Curry
"Doc" Moyers, died Monday, March 13, 2000, at the Drew Memorial
Hospital in Monticello. Born July 4, 1923, near Berea to the late
Chester A. and Mittie Belle Dickson Franklin, she was a homemaker and a
retired nutrition aide for the University of Arkansas Cooperative
Extension Service. She was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church in
Snyder, the Colonel Francis Vivian Brooking chapter of the Daughters of
the American Revolution and the Captain Charles Schreiner chapter of
the United Daughters of the Confederacy. In addition to her husband and
parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Marcella Franklin
Stone and Mary Alice Franklin Dace, and a brother, Charles Hugh
Franklin.
Survivors include a son, David Moyers and wife Carol of Hamburg; a
daughter, Mary Lea Rieck and husband Peter of Martinez, GA; three
brothers-in-law, T. E Moyers of Snyder, A. P. "Bud" Moyers of Lake
Village and Donald Dace of Heber Springs; a sister-in-law, Ann Franklin
of Mobile, AL; four grandsons, Michael Moyers of Hamburg and John, Andy
and Stephen Rieck of Martinez, GA; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Rose
Rieck of Martinez, GA, as well as her nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 14, in the Hamburg
United Methodist Church with Rev. Billy R. Carpenter officiating.
Grandsons and great-nephews Brad Shiver, Jeff Carpenter, and George,
Bill, Trey and Greg Moyers served as pallbearers. Burial followed
services at the Mount Olive Cemetery, directed by Jones Funeral Home of

MARGURITE
PAULINE MURPHY, 83, of Crossett died Thursday, March 16,
2000, at the Ashley County Medical Center. Born January 17, 1917, to
John E. and Syleathe Annie Walser Carter in Ashley County, she worked
as an inspector at Chase Bag Company for ten years and was a member of
the Wallers Chapel Methodist Church where she was active in the United
Methodist Women. She was preceded in death by a brother, Johnny Frank
Carter, and her husband, German Murphy.
Survivors include a daughter, Margurite Murphy; a brother and
sister-in-law, Billy Nute and Jessie Carter; a sister and
brother-in-law, Ione and Luke Clark, all of Crossett; and many nieces
and nephews.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 18, in the Wallers
Chapel Methodist Church with Rev. Pat Wilkerson officiating.
Pallbearers were Colvin Shivers, Steven and Jason Carter, Jonathan
Moss, Jim Towers and Mike Avery. Honorary pallbearers were George
Murphy, Bobby Jenkins, Lexie Rickman, Lemmie Miller, Charles Barnett,
Jerry Lynn Swan, Jimmy Murphy and Bobby Glen Murphy. Burial followed
services at the Crossroads Cemetery, directed by Jones Funeral Home of
