GREENVILLE - FREDRICK HERSHEL ADCOCK, 62, of Lake Village, Ark., retired used car dealer, died of heart failure Wednesday at his home. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Mortimer Funeral Home here has charge.
He was a member of Swiftwater Baptist Church and York Rite-Greenville Lodge 206, past master of Masonic Lodge and past president of Greenville Shrine Club.
Mr. Adcock, the husband of Myrtle Ann Adcock, also leaves his mother, Cora Adcock of Ducktown, Tenn.; three sisters, Janelle Zunica of Atlanta, and Linda Maugham and Debbie Hensley, both of Ducktown, and five brothers, J. B. Adcock of York, Pa., Joe Adcock of Chatsworth, Ga., and Jack Adcock, C. W. Adcock and Randy Adcock, all of Ducktown.

GREENVILLE-- HELEN VIRGINIA ALLEN, 66, of Lake Village, Ark., formerly of Greenville, retired employee of Greenville Mills and Nicholson File after 32 years, died of heart failure Wednesday at Delta Regional Medical Center. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Boone-Wells Funeral Home with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. She was a Baptist.
Mrs. Allen was the wife of George Lamar Allen.

Dermott - Carl "Duke" Alvis left this life on Dec. 28, 2007 in Little Rock, Ark. He was born Feb. 15, 1916 in Kalamazoo, Ark. Duke was a lifelong resident of Dermott, Ark., where he was active in the business community, church and civic activities. He worked for many years as a partner in Parker Lumber Co., was a member of the volunteer fire department where he served as chief, and was an over 50-year member of the Dermott Baptist Church. Duke set an example of integrity and honesty for his family and friends. A loving husband and father and loyal friend, he will be greatly missed by all who were privileged to share his life.
Duke was predeceased by his parents, Henry B. and May Earls Alvis; his wife Leota Laffoon Alvis; his daughter Gwendolyn Kulman; his sisters Gertrude Williams, and Ina Jones; and his brother Coy Alvis. He is survived by his daughters Diane Corbett (John) of Little Rock, Carol Sward (David) of Mountain Home; grandchildren Ted Sward (Julie), Cliff Sward (Susie), Andy Corbett (Tammy), Jennifer Lester (Bud), and Beth Martin (Kevin). Duke is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren, all of whom loved and enjoyed "Poppa Duke".
A celebration of his life will be held at the Dermott Baptist Church on Dec. 31 at 11 a.m. with the family receiving friends at 10:30 a.m. at the church before the service. Memorials my be made to the Dermott Baptist Church. Arrangements will be under the direction of Griffin Funeral Service of Dermott.
