Jonesboro,
AR-- CHARLES DONALD MARTIN, 76, of Jonesboro died Friday, May 9, 2008 at Arkansas Methodist
Hospital in Paragould. He was born on May 20, 1931 to Fred
and
Vera Walls Martin.
He was a graduate of Rector High School and attended Arkansas State
College. He was a Marine in the Korean War and received the
Purple Heart. He was an avid traveler, hunter and fisherman.
His stories of his adventures are legendary with friends and
family. He worked in the floor covering service with Larry
Newman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Don; youngest
son, Chuck; and a grandson, Thad Smith.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary Janice Lewis Martin of
Jonesboro; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Cindy Martin of
Midway and Jon and Margaret Martin of Jonesboro; two daughters and
sons-in-law, Teresa and Al Puente of Groves, Texas, and Lousia and Paul
Smith of Monticello; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren; a
sister, and husband, Donzie and Julius Taylor of Parker, Colo; and a
host of nieces and nephews and freinds.
Funeral services will be today at 10:30 a.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home
Chapel of Rector with Ryan McRae officiating and interment in Woodland
Heights Cemetery.
Jonesboro, AR-- LONNIE CHARLES MCGUFFIN,
76, of Jonesboro died Sunday, March 10, (2002) at St.
Bernard’s Medical Center. A native of Jonesboro, he worked as
a service manager for J.I. Case Tractor Dealership for several years,
and was a retired employee of General Electric. He was a World War II
Navy veteran, a member of the Jonesboro Veterans of Foreign Wars, a
past commander of the Nettleton American Legion Post and attended South
caraway Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda
Hughes Bonds and Judy Kitterman Kiech, both of Jonesboro; one
brother, Spencer Hardin of Jonesboro; three sisters, Lemma Gilliam and
Vera King, both of Jonesboro, and Julia Catts of Richland, Wash.; five
grandchildren, Blake Watkins, Paige Woods, Chad Dennis, Todd Kitterman
and Christopher Kitterman; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents,
Lonnie C. and Sallie Berry McGuffin, one brother and one sister.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m.
Tuesday at Emerson Memorial Chapel in Jonesboro. Burial will follow at
Nettleton Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will include Tommy
Carter, Mike Bosche, Danny Davis, Bill Summers, Mel Cooper and Brian
Woods.
Honorary pallbearers will include Blake
Watkins, Paige Woods, Todd Kitterman, Chris Kitterman and Chad Dennis.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today
at the funeral home.

JACKSON, MO– MARGARET SHARON MEYR, 62, of Jackson passed away Monday, March 2, 2009 at her home.
She was born August 30, 1946, in Jonesboro AR, daughter of the late
John Edgar and Estelle Williams Manning. She and Ryland
“Dutch” Meyr were married July 12, 1980, in Cape Girardeau,
MO.
Sharon graduated from Jonesboro High School in 1964 and attended
Arkansas State University where she was crowned Miss Arkansas State in
1966. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University
of Oklahoma in 1968 and a MA from Southeast Missouri State University.
She moved to Cape Girardeau in 1968 and taught elementary school at
Jonesboro Elementary School in Illinois, and Franklin School and May
Greene School in Cape Girardeau. Sharon later became a skilled
decorator who designed and built custom homes.
Sharon served on the board of the Senior Citizen Service Fund since
1996 and served on the fundraising committee of Saxony Lutheran High
School. She volunteered for the American Cancer Society and donated her
time and talent to help build two homes for St. Jude Children’s
Research Hospital. She was a member of the John Guild Chapter Daughters
of the American Revolution and Chapter LY of P.E.O.
She was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau since
1980, where she served on the decorating committee and shared in bible
study with dear friends.
Sharon was a loving, selfless, wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
Survivors include her husband, three daughters, Crescent (Larry) Dush
of Cape Girardeau, Cyndy (Gary) Wrigley of Arnold, MO, and Lindsey
(Drew) Church of Cape Girardeau; a stepdaughter, Morgan (Thad) Lake of
Jackson; four grandchildren, Madison Dush, Dylan Dush, Maggie Wrigley,
and soon-to-be baby girl Church; and three step-grandchildren, Jacob
Dush, Jack Lake, and Pete Lake.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Andrew Lutheran
Church Building Fund or the Saxony Lutheran High School Building Fund,
the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.

JONESBORO, AR - MARTHA JANIS MONROE, 57, former postmaster in Texas and
Arkansas, died of cancer Saturday (March 11, 1995) at her home.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Jonesboro City Cemetery.
Gregg Funeral Home has charge.
She was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church in Quitman, Texas,
Business & Professional Women's Club, Pilot Club in Quitman,
National Association of Postmasters of the United States and a
volunteer for Special Olympics.
Mrs. Monroe, the widow of John Ward Monroe, leaves a daughter, Diana
Monroe of Pearl; two sons, Joe Monroe of Jonesboro and John Scott
Monroe of Austin, Texas; her parents, Gene and Jane Conrad of Pangburn,
and six grandchildren.

HAINES CITY, FL-- CLETA DROPE MOORE,
87, of Haines City died Tuesday at Heart of Florida Hospital. A native
of Craighead County, Ark., she moved to this area last year from
Jonesboro, Ark. She was a homemaker and member of Central Baptist
Church in Jonesboro.
She is survived by two sons, Thomas F. Broadaway of Haines City and
Reuben Z. Broadaway of Milam, Texas; two sisters, Neva Bishop and Inez
Hudson, and a brother, Gerald Drope, all of Jonesboro; 16
grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and five
great-great-grandchildren.
