Woods School memories from Buren Jackson, Jonesboro, AR, June 2009

The old Woods School was located at the intersection of a gravel road and Paragould Highway No. 1.

Buren Jackson's father attended Woods School when he was about 14 years old. The father was born in 1898 and had one older sister and 4 younger sisters who also attended Woods School.

The Jackson Family moved from Missouri to 1 mile north of Brookland, AR in 1911. They lived there for only 1 year and moved to a farm on the Craighead-Greene County line.

The Jackson Family lived next door to Woods School when Buren Jackson was born 9-30-1928. Buren's sister Charlene Jackson was 8 years older than Buren and attended Woods School 2 or 3 years.   That was before it was consolidated with other schools in Greene County in 1929.

When Buren Jackson started school in 1934 the school year began in July as they had split terms and were out September, October and 1st week in November to pick cotton.  The school year resumed 2nd week in Nov and went through April the following year.

Buren Jackson started to school at Greene County Consolidated District July 1934 and graduated Greene County High in 1947 in the last class to graduate there. Greene County, Lake Side, Alexander, Walcott and Light all consolidated in 1948 to form the Greene County Tech district.

Buren Jackson is 81 years young and we thank him for these great memories.
