JOHN HENRY HARRIS IN SHOOTING
NEAR OZARK
Madison County Arkansas Genealogy Trails Contributed by Susan Fahnstrom Ozark, July 13--One
man was wounded and another is being held in jail here as a result of
an alleged fight Saturday night at a picnic 12 miles north of here.
George Willims, a bystander, suffered two bullet wounds when he was struck by John Henry Harris, operator of a dance pavilion at the picnic, while struggling with Howard White, Franklin county assessor. The fight is said to have occurred when Harris asked White to leave the pavilion and when White refused the men are said to have started fighting. Harris is said to have drawn a pistol from his pocket and fired twice at White, the bullets striking Williams in a finger and in the leg. Harris was arrested by J. W. Johnson, justice of the peace, of Watalula township. Sheriff Ledgerwood said Sunday he did not know what charges would be filed against Harris, pending a complete investigation. |
