April 16--E. J. Smith, aged 40, and his three-year-old daughter Myra
were burned to death and Smith's nine-months-old babe and his
housekeeper were perhaps fatally burned in a fire that destroyed the
Smith home near Texarkana, Wednesday. The family was awakened
by the collapse of the roof of the home. Smith carried the
eldest child to safety and then rescued the housekeeper and the babe.
While he was engaged in saving clothing, the oldest child ran
into the house to find him. Both were imprisoned in the
burning house by a second collapse of the roof.. --The

TEXARKANA , TEXAS, April 16, 1921 A casualty list from the tornado area in Arkansas obtained here Saturday night, virtually all from Miller County as follows: Dead - Carter and Lonnie Roberts , Shiloh; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Jones and two small children, tenants of Potter plantation; J.S. Jones, railroad man, killed on his farm near Trigenta; Mrs. B.C. Haywood, killed on Potter plantation and the following negroes: Walter Dewberry and wife, Shiloh; Mattie Johnson, Trigenta; Mary Grandson, Potter plantation . The Injured - Sam Dodd, Trigenta, internally injured; Mrs. Sam Boyd, leg broken, hurt internally; Lloyd Dodd, head hurt; Mrs. Sanders Orr, badly bruised; Cato Smith, severe body injuries; G.M. Robinson, head cut; Wilson and wife, Walnut Grove farm, injured head and body; C.R. Rabb, rural mail carrier, hurt internally; five negroes on Brown farm, names not given; M.H. Boyce, plantation owner, skull fractured; Luther Griffith, ribs broken; Alice Mosely, back and head injured; Oscar Norsen and mother, not serious; A.H. Cox, not serious; Florence Jones, probably fatally hurt; Beatrice Poulk, back broken; Mrs. Ada Powell, head and leg cut and bruised; Mrs. M.A. Roberts, cuts on head; Lee Matteson, leg broken; Hester Haak, internal injuries, may die; Amy Mosely, internally hurt, may die; Clyde, Clarence and Theodore Roberts, body injuries.
