BRINKLEY, Ark. (AP) - DORATHY MC DONALD ALLEN, a retired newspaper
publisher and the first woman to serve in the Arkansas Senate, died
Saturday. She was 80.
Allen and her husband, state Sen. Tom Allen, bought The Citizen in Brinkley, the Monroe County Sun in Clarendon and the Woodruff County Democrat. Mrs. Allen became the first woman in the Senate when she was appointed to finish the term of her husband, who died in 1963.
