DORTHY SCHIMACK
CHEROKEE
VILLAGE, AR–DORTHY SCHIMACK, 88, of Cherokee Village, died Dec.
8, 2001, at Eastern Ozarks Regional Health System in Cherokee Village.
Born Oct. 12, 1913, in Chicago, she was the daughter of Matilda Buchler
Schimack and Frank Schimack.
She was an aid for the fathers
at St. Rita's Catholic School in Chicago for 32 years. She had lived in
Cherokee Village for the past 15 years after retiring, and was a member
of St. Michael's Church in Cherokee Village.
Survivors include two sisters
-- Anna Emily Grieshabe of Cherokee Village and Cathirne Peters of
Chicago; several nephews and nieces; great-nephews and great-nieces;
and great-great-nephews and great-great-nieces.
The funeral was Dec. 14 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Cherokee Village. Burial was in St. Michael's Columbarium.
Arrangements were under the direction of Heath Funeral Home, Oak Hill Chapel of Hardy.

LORENE BROWN SOWARD
ASH FLAT -- LORENE BROWN SOWARD, 72, of Ash Flat died Wednesday, Jan. 1, at her home.
Born in Evening Shade, she was a certified nursing assistant, having
worked at the Ash Flat Convalescent Center, Horseshoe Bend Nursing Home
and Cherokee Village Recreation Center.
She was active in the Indian Hills Bowling League and was a member of the Ash Flat Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband, Hubert Soward of the home; one daughter,
Renee Bell of Batesville; one brother, Nelson Brown of Batesville;
three sisters, Fay Frazier and Lillian Stroud, both of Evening Shade,
and Norma Smith of Cave City; two grandchildren, Chris Phillips of
Little Rock and Carla Duncan of Batesville; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Maud Elizabeth Ferguson Brown, and one sister.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Qualls
Funeral Home of Cave City, with Boyce Gale Johnson officiating. Burial
will follow in the Antioch Cemetery at Zion.
Visitation is today from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

SMITHVILLE — Maurice Gene Starr died Wednesday, Dec. 26, in St. Bernards Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 19, 1928, at Memphis to the late Alfred M. and Bonnie
Coffman Starr and graduated from Sloan Hendrix School in 1946.
He later graduated from Arkansas State in 1950 with a degree in
agriculture and received a masters in education in 1955 from the
University of Arkansas. He also completed a specialist degree in
administrative education in 1974. After serving in the Korean Conflict
he was honorably discharged from the Army in 1953 as 1st Lieutenant.
Mr. Starr taught agriculture at Fountain Lake School in Hot Springs for
five years and served as superintendent for Williford Schools until his
retirement in 1983.
Survivors include his wife, Daphine Stewart Starr of the home; a son,
Ben Starr and his wife Karen of Smithville; a daughter, Patti Russell
and her husband Gary of Smithville; and four grandchildren, Josh
Russell and his wife Leslie, Sarah Russell, Nicole and Allison Starr.
Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in First United Methodist Church
at Smithville with Bob McMillon and Jerry Clements officiating. Burial
will follow in Coffman Family Cemetery with Josh Russell, Steve Jones,
Jim Jones, Danny Rowsey, David Stewart and Curt Mason serving as
pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Burrow, Walt Neeley, Gene Pickett, Rickey Pickett, Jackie Pickett and Mike Pickett.
Visitation will be this evening from 6-8 in McNabb Funeral Home at Pocahontas.

DOROTHY IRENE ELDRIDGE SWEET
OSCEOLA, AR —DOROTHY IRENE ELDRIDGE SWEET, 92, of Osceola died Tuesday, May 13, at Osceola Health Care Center.
Born at Williford, she was the daughter of the late Ridley and Jessie
Hill Eldridge and had lived most of her life in Mississippi County. She
was a retired bookkeeper, the widow of Raymond Sweet and a longtime
member of Brinkley Chapel Baptist Church near Osceola.
She is survived by three daughters, Joy McKenzie of Texarkana, Texas,
Ramona Davis of Douglasville, Ga., and Marilyn Davis of Osceola; one
sister, Mazine Markin of Germantown, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; two
stepgrandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 4 stepgreat-grandchildren;
and one great-great-granddaughter.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday in the Howard Funeral Service
Chapel at Manila with the Rev. William Piercy officiating. Burial will
follow in Elmwood Cemetery at Blytheville.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive visitors tonight from 6-8 in the funeral home.

ROGER SWETNAM
Roger Swetnam, 57, of Salado died Monday,
Oct.7, 2002 at a nursing home in Batesville.
Born July 27, 1945, at Hardy, he was the son of Floyd and
Thelma Rogers Swetnam. He was a member of Salado
Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife Veneda Swetnam; three sons,
Greg Gann of Jonesboro, Martin Gann of Southside and
Matthew Gann of Salado; four daughters, Aleisa Hodgens of
Atlanta, Diana Metcalf and Sherry Marshall, both of
Jonesboro, and Chonalee Swetnam of West Warick, R.I.; his
mother of Hardy; two brothers, Gordon Swetnam of St.
Charles, MO., and Kenny Swetnam of Hardy; a sister Sharon
Madison of Lincoln, Neb; 17 grandchildren; and several
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and a sister,
Lacretia Payton.
The funeral will be at 10 am Wednesday at Salado Baptist
Church with David Wesley officiating. Burial will follow
in Baker Cemetery at Hardy with arrangements by Qualls
