Linda Ann Benjamin, longtime Colusa resident
Services will be held Wednesday at 10 am at the McNary Chapel for
Linda Ann Benjamin, who died December 2 at Colusa Community
Hospital. Interment will be in Colusa Cemetery. Born on November 25,
1952 in Roseburg, Oregon, Mrs Benjamin moved to Colusa as an infant.
She attended Colusa schools and was very active in the Colusa VFW
Auxiliary. She is survived by her husband, Cecil Benjamin of Colusa;
sisters and brothers Lester Foster of Colusa, Suzette McMillan of
Sacramento, Robert Foster of Colusa and Amy Foster of Colusa;
children, Suzette Rippe of Colusa, Michelle Rippe of Colusa, Dennis
Mitchell of Colusa and Annie Mitchell of Colusa; mother Dolores
Evans of Colusa; grandson William Anderson of Colusa and
granddaughter Qutina McCray of Colusa. Donations may be made to the
Cancer Society or to a favorite charity. Arrangements are under the
direction of McNary Moore Funeral Service.

Foster Rites Pending
Colusan Stricken, Dies In Maxwell
Services are pending at McNary Memorial Chapel for Linza Cleo
Foster, 46, heavy equipment operator and resident of Colusa for the
past 20 years, who died of an apparent heart seizure about 2 pm
yesterday afternoon while visiting with friends in Maxwell. Foster,
the coroner's office said, was seated in a chair, talking, when he
was stricken. The Maxwell Fire Department's resuscitator was called
for and used, but to no avail. A Williams doctor was called. He
pronounced Foster dead. Foster was a native of Berryville, Ark., and
was known to have been suffering from heart trouble. The family home
is at 31 Tuttle Lane. Foster is survived by his wife, Dolores Ann;
children, Lester, Suzette, Robert, Linda and Amy Foster, all of
Colusa, Leon Foster of Marysville, Beverly Foster of Los Angeles,
Raymond and Danny Foster of Sutter, and Penny Umfress, also of
Sutter; four grandchildren and several brothers and sisters. Funeral
services, it was announced later will be held at 10 am Thursday in
McNary Memorial Chapel with interment in Colusa Cemetery.

of Delbert, Judy and Gregory. Devoted grandmother of 7. Also
survived by one brother and three sisters. A native of Berryville,
Arkansas, aged 68, Friends are welcome for visitation on Friday
August 6 from Noon - 8 pm and services August 7 at 10 am both at
East Lawn Andrews and Greilich, 3939 Fruitridge rd. Interment at
Colusa Cemetery.

Oliver Robinson Dies After Illness, Services Friday
City Resident Was Born In Colusa County at Glenn Valley
Oliver Don Robinson, 56, died Colusa Memorial Hospital last night
about 10 pm after an illness. Born June 27, 1884, in Glenn Valley,
Colusa county , Mr. Robinson came to Colusa with his parents in 1894
and lived in Cooper's extension. Later he moved about two miles out
of town. He attended Colusa schools and was the son of Perry David
Robinson. He is survived by one sister, Mrs Myra Rice; one brother,
Clark D. Robinson of Colusa. Funeral services will be held Friday
afternoon at 2 pm in McNary's Memorial chapel with the Rev. Leslie
O. Dabritz in charge. Burial will be in Colusa cemetery.

Myra Rice Dead; Rites On Monday
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Monday in McNary Memorial
Chapel for Mrs Myra Winfred Rice, 78, lifelong resident of Colusa
who died at 5:30 last night in Colusa Memorial Hospital after a
lengthy illness. Mrs Rice the widow of Thomas Rice, Colusa carpenter
who died a number of years ago, was born in Sycamore, Colusa County
on January 27, 1879. She had resided at 142 East Webster Street for
many years and is survived by a brother, Charles D. Robinson,
veteran secretary of the Colusa Lodge of Odd Fellows. Mrs Rice was a
member of Trinity Methodist Church, Deborah Rebekah Lodge,
Progressive Encampment Auxiliary and the Colusa County Garden Club.
The Rev. James Etheredge, pastor of Trinity Methodist Church, will
conduct the services and interment will be made in Colusa Cemetery
beside the body of her late husband. Colusa Rebekah will conduct the
graveside rites.

M. L. RICE CALLED TO LAST RITE
Martin Luther Rice, a well known and respected citizen of this city,
passed away at 8:40 this morning at the family home on Jay Street.
Death was due to injuries he sustained on September 2, while taking
a walk he M. L. fell and broke his hip. Deceased was 82 years of age
and a native of Green County, Pennsylvania. In 1859 Mr. Rice moved
from Pennsylvania to Mt .Pleasant, Iowa, and wedded Miss Elizabeth
Alender, who died in 1870. In 1872 he came to California and settled
in Placerville, where he remained one year and then came to Colusa.
He was married to Miss Josephine Silver in 1876. deceased is
survived by his wife, Mrs. M. L. Rice, five daughters, Mrs. Preston
Garmire of Kent, Mrs. Walter Newbauer of San Francisco, Mrs. L. I.
McIntyre of Pasadena; Mrs. Ella Gould and Miss Alice Rice of
Sacramento, and three sons, Tom Rice of Colusa; Luther V. Rice of
Stockton and Porter E Rice of Sacramento. The burial will be held
tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock.

Edith H Taws
Graveside services are scheduled Monday at 2 pm in the Colusa
Cemetery for Edith H Taws, 93, of Yuba City, who died April 6, 1989,
at Yuba City Care Center. A native of San Jose, she lived in Colusa
for many years and was a homemaker. She is survived by two
daughters, Alice Ponfret of Colusa and Leora Marr of Lodi; two sons,
Harold Taws and Gerald Taws both of Marysville, two sisters, Merle
Caborn of Oroville and Delpha Shaull of Auburn; a brother, John
Mathews of Oroville; 11 grandchildren, five great grandchildren and
two greta great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her
husband, Leo Taws. The Rev. Tom Tripp will officiate at the
services. Arrangements are under the direction of McNary-Moore
Funeral Services

Graveside services will be conducted tomorrow in Colusa for Rita
Foster Ronan, 71, of Little Rock who died Tuesday in a Fort Bragg
hospital. A native of Arkansas, she was a former resident of Sutter
County before moving to the Fort Bragg area six years ago. Survivors
include her husband Eric; two sons, Buster Foster of Yuba City,
Robert Foster of Sacramento: four daughters, Mrs. Opal Conger of
Porterville, Mrs. Virginia Silvera of San Jose, Mrs. Exilee Sapp of
Oklahoma and Mrs. Peggy Walls of Pacifica; a brother Charles Plumlee
of Independence, Mo; a sister, Mrs. Mable Sharks of San Mateo; and
35 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. Services will be
conducted at 2 pm at the Colusa cemetery. Friends may call upon the
Cannarr-Fairlee funeral chapel until tonight.

A. U. L. RICE DIES SUDDENLY AGED 46 DIED AT THE FAMILY HOME IN THIS
CITY THIS MORNING AT 6:15 AM DEATH FROM HERAT FAILURE. DEATH WAS
SUDDEN AND UNEXPECTED AS THE DECEASED HAD BEEN AT HIS PLACE OF
BUSINESS AS USUAL SATURDAY, AND SUNDAY WAS FEELING IN THE BEST OF
HEALTH. HIS ONLY COMPLAINT WAS A COLD, HAVING CONTRACTED IT SEVERAL
DAYS AGO. THIS MORNING AT 5 HIS FATHER M. L. RICE WENT TO HIS SON'S
ROOM AS IS HIS USUAL CUSTOM TO CALL HIM. HE RECEIVED NO ANSWER AND
ENTERING THE ROOM DISCOVERED AMON BREATHING HEAVILY. ALL EFFORTS TO
AWAKE HIM WERE FRUITLESS AND MRS RICE TELEPHONED FOR A PHYSICIAN.
A. U. L. RICE WAS ONE OF THE BEST KNOWN MEN IN THE COUNTY, COMING
HERE 30 YRS AGO FROM IOWA. HE WAS CRIPPLED AND FOR 22 YRS HAD KEPT A
VARIETY STORE ON MARKET STREET. THE BUSINESS WAS LUCRATIVE AND HE
ACCUMULATED PROPERTY AND MONEY. THOSE WHO SURVIVED THE DECEASED ARE
HIS FATHER, M. L. RICE OF COLUSA, A BROTHER, THOMAS OF COLUSA AND A
SISTER, MRS MATTIE GARMIRE OF KENT. NO FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS HAVE
BEEN MADE.
03-29-1911 FUNERAL WAS HELD THIS AFTERNOON AT 2 FROM THE FAMILY
HOME. REV H. T. DOBBINS OF THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH CONDUCTED THE

Jeanette M. Foster
Jeanette M. Foster died Wednesday, May 16, in Hillhaven Convalescent
Hospital. A native of Syracuse, N. Y. , she was 90. Mrs. Foster was
a homemaker and a 14-year Woodland resident. She formerly lived in
Colusa. She is survived by her sons, Clifford McCormick of Fairfield
and Merle McCormick of Guinda; daughters, Olga Borders of Colusa,
Norma Cleland of Woodland, and Barbara Martin of Sacramento;
brothers, Elywn Newell and Claude Newell, both of Whitehall, N. Y.;
and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Visitation will
be Sunday, May 20, from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. in Kraft Bros. Chapel. A
graveside service will be held Monday, May 21, at 11 a.m. in the
Colusa Cemetery.

Leonard S. Betty
Leonard Sam Betty, 82, of Colusa died yesterday at the Eskaton
Colusa Healthcare
Center. Son of a pioneer Sutter County family, Betty was a retired
auditor for the
state Board of Equalization. He also taught for many years in Sutter
County schools.
Betty also was active in area baseball teams and served as an umpire
for many years.
He was a veteran of World War 1. Survivors include his brother,
Vernon Betty of Red
Bluff and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services are set for
10 am Friday at
Ullrey Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Sutter Cemetery.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday for Sutter County native
Gladys Elizabeth
Betty, 78, of Colusa. She died Sunday at the Eskaton Colusa Health
Care Center. Born
in Sutter, she was lifelong resident of the Sutter-Colusa area. She
was a music teacher
at Sutter High School for many years. She was a 50- years member of
Fidelia Chapter
No. 56, Order of the Eastern Star in Yuba City and had been that
organization's organist
for 16 years. She was also a 50 -year member of South Butte Parlor
No. 226, Native
Daughters of the Golden West in Sutter and was the former organist
for the Sutter
Community Methodist church and the Colusa Methodist Church.
Survivors include her
husband, Leonard Betty of Colusa and two sisters, Mrs Fred Havens of
Yuba City and
Mrs Edna Taylor of Oakland. Funeral services will be conducted at 2
pm Thursday at
Ullrey Memorial Chapel with Rev, Edgar Nelson , pastor of the Yuba
City First United
Methodist Church and members of Fidelia Chapter No. 56, Order of the
Eastern Star
officiating. Burial will be in Sutter Cemetery.
