Tom McAleer broke the
twenty five mile coast bicycle record at Los Angeles Wednesday afternoon
covering the distance in 1 hour 47 minutes and 31 seconds. The first ten
miles were made within ten seconds of the ten mile record. McAleer has
only been riding four and a half months

CONTINENTAL BILL FOR $8 FOUND IN BIBLE
AFTER 100 YEARS' CONCEALMENT
LOS ANGELES, Jan. .—An $8 bill of
Continental currency was found today in an old bible by Claude I.
Parker, United States internal revenue collector for this district.
The bill is numbered 7808 and bears the date of
May 9, 1776. It is about half the size of an ordinary bank note, and on
one aide is printed the following:
"Eight dollars. Printed by Hall & Sellers, 1776"
On the other side Is a design, which has been
almost effaced; by time, and the following -Inscription:
"This bill entitles the bearer to receive eight
Spanish milled dollars, or heir value thereof in gold or silver,
according. to a 'resolution' 'of congress passed at Philadelphia, May 9,
1776."
Parker believes the bill was placed in the Bible
by his grandfather and as been there for more than 100 years

A Failed Suicide
Los Angeles, April 30.— Clark Anderson, a young
musician of this city, made a desperate attempt to
commit suicide this morning at West Lake park. A
constable prevented the act just as the young fellow was
putting a razor to his throat. He has been addicted to
the cigarette habit, and his inability to quit the habit
is his reason for the attempt. Young Anderson lives with
his mother on South Spring street He will be tried for
insanity.

Explosion
The residence of Mrs. Louise M. Mohn of Los Angles, Cal., was
demolished by an explosion, the cause of which is unknown. [The
