Murder of I. O. Greenstreet

Should be Discouraged

The Homer Index says of the recent stabbing affray in Bridgeport , Mono county, California , in which I. O. Greenstreet, a miner, was cut by Jim Hawkins: the knife is said to have been plunged into Greenstreet’s bowels, whipped around to the left side – in which case the wounded man cannot survive.  As Greenstreet is a peacable and harmless man, it is generally believed there was no provocation for the act, and that the stabbing was due to the inordinate desire of Hawkins to be considered a “bad man”.  If such should prove to be the case, Hawkins should be hanged higher than Haman, for it is high time the crop of “bad men” of this country were gathered to their fathers.

James M. Cadwell Appointed Postmaster

James M. Cadwell, formerly Sheriff of Nye county and at present Assemblyman from that county, has been appointed Postmaster at Oasis, Mono county, California .  Jim is a Democrat of the red-hottest kind, and his appointment to a Federal position at twelve dollars a year under a Republican administration is another argument in favor of the President’s Southern policy and an additional evidence that we are now in the very thick of the era of good feeling.  – Austin Reveille
