| GIBSON, BETH IRENE MAHAN Beth Gibson, 75-year resident Beth Irene Gibson, a native of Camarillo, died Monday, May 16, at Hazel Hawkins Hospital in Hollister of a lengthy illness. She was 77. A lifelong California resident and 75-year San Benito County resident, she was educated at local schools and was a longtime local orchardist and rancher along with her husband. She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth A. Gibson, who died in 1969, and her brothers Glen and Oris Mahan.She is survived by her daughters Jean Brown of Hollister, Donna Levitt of Bishop, Terri Snow of Hood and Kay Gibson of Hollister; sons Kenneth A. Gibson of Los Banos and Eric Gibson of Hollister; grandchildren Kelly Pereira, Karri Brown, Connie O’Connor, Tara Gibson, Debbie Gibson and Kenneth T. Gibson, all of Hollister; Donna and Richard Snow, both of Hood; Brian and Todd Levitt, both of Bishop; Jason Johnson, who is with the US Army overseas; great-grandson Kyle Pereira of Hollister; sisters Nina Renz of Hollister and Vivian Carter of Wasco; and numerous nieces and nephews.Funeral services will proceed from Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home Thursday at 1:30 PM thence to Immaculate Conception Church in Tres Pinos for memorial services at 2 PM. Burial services will follow at IOOF Cemetery. Friends may also visit at the funeral home today from noon until 8 PM and Thursday morning until the time of the service. Gibson, prominent San Benito County orchardist for many years, died Wednesday evening at his home at 257 Union Road. Mr. Gibson, 58, was a native of Hollister and attended schools in San Benito County. He was a member of the San Benito County Farm Bureau.Mr. Gibson was the husband of Mrs. Beth Gibson, Hollister, who survives him, and he was the father of Kenneth A. Gibson, Eric Gibson, Mrs. Jean Moon, Teri Gibson and Kay Gibson, all of Hollister, and Mrs. Donna Leavitt, Bishop. He was the brother of Marion Gibson, Hollister; Ralph Gibson, Wisconsin; Earl Gibson, Chico; Orris Gibson, Davis; Mrs. Myrtle Henthorne, Chico; Mrs. Leona Dutro, Gerber; Mrs. Lula Phillips, Chico; and Mrs. Alta Harms, Sacramento. He was the grandfather of Kelly Ann Moon, Hollister; grandson of Mrs. Edith Langdon, Morgan Hill; and nephew of Mrs. Alma Schulz, Hollister. He is also survived by numerous other aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Saturday in the chapel of Black-Cooper-Ottesen Mortuary, and interment will follow in the IOOF Cemetery. Mahan, Prominent Rancher, Taken By Death Guy William Mahan, prominent Union district rancher, died at 2:12 this morning at the O’Connor Hospital in San Jose. In indifferent health for some time, he suffered the first of a succession of strokes two weeks ago. He had been in the hospital for the past seven days.Mahan was born 68 years ago in Camarillo, Ventura County, coming here in 1922 to establish the family home on the Elkhorn ranch in the Emmett section. The family moved to its present home in the Union district in 1925. Mahan was a charter member of the Oxnard Lodge BPOE, later transferring his membership to Hollister Lodge No. 1438.In addition to his wife Ethel, he leaves to mourn his loss a son Glenn Mahan; three daughters, Mrs. Vivian Williams, Mrs. Nina Renz, and Mrs. Beth Gibson; two brothers, George S. Mahan of Tulare and Frank E. Mahan of Laguna Beach; and two sisters, Mrs. Jessie Couch of Pasadena and Mrs. U. D. Underwood of Moorpark; grandchildren; Hugh Williams, Glenna and Leslie Mahan, Verna Jane, Jerry Allan, Shirley and Katherine Renz, and Jean Gibson.Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 PM from the Black-Cooper Mortuary, with burial at the IOOF Cemetery. TARKINTON, VERNA RENZ Verna Tarkington, 4-H leader A memorial gathering for friends of Verna Renz Tarkington, who died Friday in Community Hospital of Monterey after a long illness, will be held Tuesday in Hollister. She was 58. Ms. Tarkington was a 4-H leader and held membership in the Republican Women of San Benito County, the Methodist Church, and the Good Sam Single Club. She loved to travel in her motor home. She was a bookkeeper for 25 years following a career in the banking industry.Ms. Tarkington is survived by her daughter, Juli Ann Vieira of Hollister; sons Robert Vieira of the Republic of Czechoslovakia, Jeff Vieira of Redding, and Bruce Viera of Capitola; and the mother-in-law of Kathi Vieira of Redding. She was the daughter of Robert and Nina Renz of Hollister and the grandmother of Tiffani Jessup, Adam Jessup and Tyson Vieira of Hollister, Arron and Brandon Raulinaitis of Redding. She is also survived by two sisters, Shirley Broadfoot and Kathy Chestnut of Hollister; a brother, Jerry Renz of Hollister; a sister-in-law, Kathy Renz of Hollister and Bill Chestnut of Hollister, her brother-in-law.At Ms. Tarkington’s request, there will be no funeral services. Private arrangements for cremation have been made through Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to UC San Francisco Medical Center Cancer Research or to the Hospice, in care of the mortuary chapel.
