The Funeral of John Ritchie
A great concourse followed the remains of John Ritchie
to its last resting place at the Woodland cemetery, on
Sunday, January 5th. The preliminary services were held
in the family residence, corner of Main and Cleveland
streets, by the Rev. Chas. Waehite of the German
Lutheran Church. The imposing ritual and eloquent
preacher brought tears to the eyes of the congregated
friends. The choir sang the affecting hymn "Farewell."
After the service the body was taken by the pall
bearers, Messrs. Geo. Woodard, Chas. Hoppin, T.E.
Porter, Hank Marston, Rudolph Kech, Peter Juhl, and the
procession was formed and proceeded to the cemetery,
where the concluding services were held, the choir
singing "We Shall Meet Again." There was a great
profusion of beautiful flowers and the splendid monument
belonging to the family was covered.
A great many persons were present from a distance to
pay their respect to the deceased. Among them were:
Conrad Schaumloeffel, Henry Schaumloeffel and wife, Mrs.
Peter Menke, J. Greisel and daughter, Mrs. Rosa Heisch
and daughter, family relatives from Sacramento, and many
others whose names we could not obtain.
Mr. Ritchie was one f the most highly respected
pioneers of Yolo county, where he accumulated a fortune
by honest, patient industry. He leaves a loving wife,
two daughters and one son. His memory will be held
sacred by a large circle of friends.

Funeral of D.Q. Adams
The funeral of the late D.Q. Adams took place yesterday
from the Christian Church at Madison. Bridges had
had[sic] been washed away and men were working all day
Sunday and Monday in preparing a route to bring the
remains to the church. They were taken around by Capay
and arrived at Madison at 1 o'clock. Messrs. G.M.
Dameron, G.D. Stephens, Governor Johnson, Thomas Hall,
S.A. Howard, M.R. York, J.S. Tutt and Joe Stephens acted
as pall-bearers. A choir consisting of Misses Kate
Parsons and Rose Stewart and Messrs. J.L. Simpson and
C.L. Browning, rendered the musical services, and
Professor A.M. Eiston, of Heaperian[?] College,
delivered an eloquent and forcible address. The remains
were laid to rest in the old Cottonwood Cemetery. A
large number of sympathizing friends were present, a
number being from Woodland.
We were in error in stating that Mr. Adams was
delirious during the last day of his illness. There were
times when he would utter a sentence that was entirely
disconnected with anything else, but it only required a
single question to arouse him sufficiently so that he
was perfectly conscious. He recognized John Nixon a half
hour before he died, and seemed to realize his own
condition.

Hargis Twins Are Victims of Dread Pneumonia
Sadness came to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel A.
Hargis of Guinda yesterday when their octette of boys
was reduced to sextette by the grim reaper, who took,
through the medium of dread pneumonia, twins born on
January 12, 1921, both passing away within a period of
eighteen hours, after having attained the age of six
weeks.
The twins were born robust and healthy, but by some
misadventure developed a cold which developed into
pneumonia. The first one, and apparently the strongest
of the twain, passed away yesterday morning and
last night the other paid the debt of nature from the
same cause, contracted, it is believed, from the first
of the two.
The Hargis family was one of eight boys, the twins
making a near record for the state in male births. Kitto
& Wilson have charge of the funerals of the lit-charge
of the funerals of the lit-[sic] morrow, Friday, at 1:30
o'clock, from the family home.
