Ancient Clock To Run Again
Ordway, Colo., Aug. 22-A wooden clock, which chimed out the
hours and quarter hours more than 200 years ago, while colonists were busy
laying the foundations for these United States is being repaired here and put in
readiness to tick off another three or four generations.
Judge H.F. Aldrich, whose collection of clocks is one of the
most interesting in the west, is the owner. The clock is entirely of wood, has
no medal parts about it, consequently is never oiled, or treated as the modern
timepieces. The case is covered with the finest veneer wood obtainable.
Another Judge Aldrich's possessions, a clock built in
Rotterdam, Holland, and brought to this country 150 years ago, is also being
repaired. This clock is grandfather style, and in addition to telling the hour
of the day, there is a space giving the date of the month, a chart showing the
position of the stars and moon each day.

SHERIFF FACES GAMING CHARGE
Ordway, Colo. Nov. 2-Twinkling-eyed stockmen joined curious
townfolk in the district court room today to hear Sheriff Henry Adam of Crowley
county and "six boys I used to go to school with" answer to gambling charges.
Harry E. Mast assistant district attorney, who will open the
prosecution late today, said the Rev. D.P. Ramey Presbyterian minister at
Crowley Colo, would be the principal state witness.
The minister signed gambling complaints against the sheriff
and his six friends and another complaint charging Jack Kretzer proprietor of a
Crowley pool hall with permitting a back room poker game.
Sheriff Adam, after the charges were filed, described the
game as a 'friendly nickel ante session' and said if the pastor saw him playing
"he must have looked in a back window."
A.T. Stewart attorney for the seven defendants would not
disclose the sheriffs defense plans before trial time, but said "most of the
defendants would deny knowledge of the game."
