CSM Billy D. Oneyear, 78, passed away on January 7, 2008 in Colorado Springs. He was a longtime resident of Fountain, Colorado and served as a City Council Member. Billy was born on February 6, 1929 in Dubuque, Iowa to Harold S. and Helene Oneyear. On February 10, 1970 he married Stella Oshiro. She preceded him in death on August 22, 2006. Billy served honorably in the United States Army as an inaugural member of the GHQ Raider Company. His military service included combat tours in Korea and Vietnam, where he was awarded the Bronze Star with two clusters and “V”, Combat Infantry Badge and numerous other decorations. He was a proud veteran, serving until his passing as National First Vice President of The Retired Enlisted Association (TREA), and past President of Chapter One of TREA. Billy was involved in numerous other endeavors throughout his life, including stints as a college football referee, timekeeper for the Baltimore Colts, Army ping pong champion, novice Scrabble player, and sporting goods manager extraordinaire. Billy knew no strangers and spread his own brand of love and humor. Billy is survived by several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and many nieces, nephews and their families, each of whom will miss him dearly. While he and Stella had no natural children, they have the love of their adopted Air Force Academy cadets, Chris Malpass and Tim Kline, and their boxer Molly. Please join us for a celebration of Billy's life at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 11, 2008 at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel of Roses. Full Military Honors will conclude the services and a reception will follow at 12:00 p.m. at The Retired Enlisted Association, 834 Emory Circle, Colorado Springs.
