BEERUP, ROSE STEIDLEY
Funeral services for Mrs. Rose Beerup, 83, of 220 W. Jackson St, will be held at 3 p. m. Saturday in the Palmyra Methodist Church.  She died at the home of a son, Ollyn Beerup, of  Gainsville, Fla. whom she was visiting.
Mrs. Beerup was born Sept. 7, 1971, the daughter of S. J. Steidley and Clara Rice Steidley, in Palmyra.  She attended what is now MacMurray college, Jacksonville, and was graduated from the college in Bushnell.  For two years before her marriage to Neville Beerup, she taught in Chatham schools.  She and her husband resided Palmyra until their retirement.  Mr. Beerup proceeded her in death in 1946.
Mrs. Beerup was a charter member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Palmyra, a member of the Woman's club, the Rebekah lodge and the Palmyra Methodist Church. for many years she wrote for the Palmyra Weekly Transcript and she was Palmyra correspondent for the Illinois State Register.
Remains will arrive at 10 a. m. Friday and will be received by Stults funeral home Palmyra. [Springfield Journal, Springfield, Illinois, June 22, 1955. Submitted by Dorothy Babiak.]

Mrs. Franalona June Sheffer, 87 years old, a resident of Coconut Grove, died yesterday afternoon in the home of her son, Rev. B. F. Sheffer, in Seminole avenue.

 

Mrs. Sheffer was a native of Kentucky, she was born in Hudson county where she was a member of the Methodist church. She leaves her son, Mr. Sheffer, and Mrs. H. W. Tenley of Ackerman, Miss., J. W. White, Ceruleau, Ky.; the Rev. J. H. Nicholson of Elizabethtown, Ky., presiding elder for that district; and Mr. Sheffer’s sons, Frank Jr., and Paul Sheffer of Miami and Powell and Herman Sheffer of Coconut Grove.

 

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 o’clock this afternoon in the Grace M. E. church at Coconut Grove by the Rev. R. A. Carnine, district superintendent of the Miami district. King Undertaking company have charge of the funeral arrangements and will ship the body to Tampa for burial. Transcribed by Marla Zwakman

 

 

 

 

Tampa Tribune – 7 May 1909

 

A very sad death occurred in Plant City this week. Mrs. Sallie Smith, wife of J. M. Smith, died Tuesday evening after a brief illness of one week. This estimable lady was the daughter of the late Charles Warraneer, and had moved to this place from Hartford, Conn., about twenty-two years ago. Mrs. Smith was a lady of kind heart and disposition, and will be greatly missed by a large circle of friends. She leaves a husband and one son, besides several brothers to mourn her loss. The service was held in the Methodist church after which internment was made in Oaklawn cemetery.  Transcribed by Marla Zwakman

 

 

 

 

Tampa Tribune - 21 July 1904

 

Plant City , July 20. – Died Friday night last, at the residence of W. E. Walker, J. N. Roberts, of typhoid fever. Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Roberts, father and mother, were with him when the summons came. The remains were shipped to Guilford for internment. Mr. Roberts, who has been at Plant City for the past year and a half, was in all respects an exemplary young man and had many firm friends in town. Married, Sunday evening, at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Garrison, Miss Julia Garrison, of Plant City , to J. B. Harpe of Tampa . Funeral services for John Baccus, 39, of Six Mile Creek, who died Friday, will be held this afternoon at 2 o’clock at the J. L. Reed & Son funeral home. The Rev. A. M. Tampa Tribune - Saturday, 13 Mar. 1920

 

RAIFORD, March 12. – John L. Branch, former tax collector at Hillsborough county, who was serving a five-year term at the state prison farm, died here suddenly tonight of apoplexy. Mr. Branch had been here about one year and was popular with his fellow prisoners. The remains probably will be sent to Tampa or Plant City for burial.

 

Mr. Branch was about fifty years old and was born in Hillsborough county near Plant City. He served several terms as county tax collector and was one of the most popular public officials in the county for several years. He is survived by a widow and three children, all of whom are in Asheville, N. C. The oldest daughter is the wife of Dr. Albert Holmes of Asheville. The other daughter is Miss Fay Branch, and the son is John L. Branch, Jr., about fourteen years old. He leaves many relatives in the Plant City section.

 

The shortage of which Mr. Branch was convicted several years ago was approximately $82,000.Transcribed by Marla Zwakman

George W. Lawrence, 57, died yesterday morning at his home at Lutz. He had been a resident of Hillsborough county for 35 years. Funeral services will be held this morning at 10 o’clock at Thirteen-Mile Run cemetery. Transcribed by Marla Zwakman
