Athens-Clarke
County, Georgia
Clarke
County
was formed in 1801, and the condition of the Records in the Court House
at Athens is what you might expect at this seat of learning.
A “gentleman of the old school” has charge of the Ordinary’s office,
and the
books are neat and well cared for.
The old wills are in two books, “A” and “B,” from 1802 to 1849. The marriage records are all alphabetically arranged and easy to refer to.
In the Clerk’s office the same order and cleanliness prevail. All the old minutes of Superior Court, and other books of Court records as well as Deeds are in good condition are indexed.
