A Successful Colored Man

From the Quitman, Ga., Free Press
Some eleven years since Peter Wright, a colored boy raised in Brooks county, went to Indian river with Culpepper & Creech to work on their orange grove, since that time he has lived there. We met him there once and have continually heard of his prosperity. He is now in Quitman on a visit. Peter Wright has accumulated property and money, and is worth not less than $8,000, perhaps $10,000. His success has not made a food of him, and he is as polite and good natured as ever.

The colored female seminary at Quitman, Ga., was destroyed by fire Wednesday morning, the inmates fortunately escaping. It is believed that incendiaries fired the structure, in the management of which Mrs. Rutherford B. Hayes is said to be interested. After the school was opened an attempt was made to assassinate the principal.
