BROWN
Found Dead On The Road
Quitman, Ga., March 24-Early yesterday morning the dead body of Joseph Brown, colored, was found a mile and a half west of Quitman, on the Savannah, Florida and Western railway. His head was shockingly crushed. At first foul play was suspected, but subsequently Marshal Ganto testified that late Saturday afternoon Brown was in Quitman drunk and rather than lock him up, put him in charge of another Negro, who promised to take him home. The supposition is that while walking on the railroad whisky overpowered him, and he lay down to sleep. The coroners jury rendered a verdict in accordance with the facts here stated.
