Banker's Death Called Suicide
Statesboro Man Who Died in Atlanta, Had Swallowed Poison
Atlanta, Ga., May 30 ( AP)—Coroner Paul Donehoo announced today no
Inquest into the death of Brooks Simmons, 52,
former banker of Statesboro Ga., would be necessary, saying
he had learned Simmons left a note telling his wife he had taken
poison. Simmons died In an ambulance en route to a hospital here
late yesterday after being found In a critical condition in his
parked automobile.
Funeral services will (be held to-morrow in Statesboro
Arrangements for sending the body there were made by Adjutant General
Homer C. Parker, a long-time friend.

Otis G. Price, Emanuel civic leader, dies
Swainsboro, Ga. - Funeral services for Otis G. Price, 77, of
Swainsboro, who died in Statesboro Ga., Friday, were held at 5 p.m.
Sunday at Swainsboro City Cemetery with the Rev. Walter C. Mann and the
Rev. Orman Sloat officiating. A native of Emanuel County, Ga., he was a
member of the First United Methodist Church, a charter member and past
president of the Swainsboro Golf and Country Club, former cashier for
the Citizens Bank of Swainsboro, a charter member of the Swainsboro
Kiwanis Club, a former member of the Emanuel County Board of Education,
a Mason and a Shriner, and commissioner of the Georgia-Carolina Council
of the Boy Scouts.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Josie Flanders Price of Swainsboro;
four sons, Meredith Price, Julian Price, Herbert E. (Sam) Price and
Grady Price of Swainsboro; five sisters, Mrs. Ben Mattson of
Washington, Ga., Mrs. E.E. Dowling of Dublin, Ga., Mrs. Johnny B.
Sheraf of Augusta, and Mrs. Randolph Fagler and Mrs. Maxie Warren
of Swainsboro; one brother, John D. (Buster) Price of West Palm
Beach, Fla.. 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Grandsons served as pallbeaerers.

Mrs. Jack Cooley
Statesboro, Ga. - Mrs. Jack Cooley, died Saturday In a Bulloch
County hospital. Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. today in the
Bartow City Cemetery, Bartow, Ga., with the Rev. Frank Campbell
officiating. A native of Augusta, she had lived in Statesboro
several years Survivors include two sisters. Miss Florence Kitchens,
Augusta, and Mrs. Olivia Crane, Smyrna, Ga.; one brother, W.B.
Kitchens, Augusta. Smith-Tillman Mortuary, Statesboro is in charge.

June Hargrove,
Bulloch nurse, taken by death
Statesboro, Ga. — Miss June Hargrove, 55, died Monday morning in a
Bulloch County hospital. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. today
in the Statesboro First Baptist Church with the Rev. J. Robert Smith
officiating. Burial will be in Eastside Cemetery. She was a native of
Burke County, but had lived in Statesboro for 23 years. She was a
graduate of University of Georgia, the School of Nursing, Augusta, in
1944, and was superintendent of nurses at the Bulloch County Hospital
for 17 years. She was vice president of the Nightingale Home Inc.,
Statesboro.
Survivors include her mother, Mrs. Mary B, Hargrove, Waynesboro; one
brother, William Clifford Hargrove, Waynesboro; two sisters, Mrs. Mary
H. Cott, Clarksville, Ga., and Annie Laurie Hargrove, Waynesboro; three
adopted sisters, Martha Firges and Mrs. Pat Kellog, Statesboro Mrs.
Betty Moyer, Columbia, SC. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Honorary
pallbearers will include Medical Doctors of Statesboro land
Bulloch County. Friends may call at the residence until the hour of
service. Smith-Tillman Mortuary, Statesboro is in charge.

Mrs. Carrie Strange
Statesboro, Ga.-Mrs. Carrie Weathers Strange,- 81. of Statesboro
died Sunday in a Savannah hospital. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m.
today in Statesboro First United Methodist Church, burial will be in
Magnolia Cemetery, near Waynesboro. Mrs. Strange was a native of
Augusta and had lived in Augusta for the past three years. She was a
member of Statesboro First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Miss Agnes Leola Strange and Mrs. Fred
T. Lanier Jr.. Statesboro one son. John W. Strange. Atlanta;
one.sister. Mrs. Lillie F. Ash, Birmingham, Ala.: two brothers. Charles
F. Weathers. Birmingham, and Ernest Weather. Nashville.

Ben H. Ivey Sr.
Statesboro, Ga.-Ben Hill Ivey Sr., 58, of Statesboro died Friday
morning in a Bulloch county Hospital.
The funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Lincolnton First United
Methodist Church with the Rev. Donald-Clark officiating. Burial will be
in Lincolnton City Cemetery.
Mr. Ivey was a native of Lincolnton and had lived in Statesboro for the
past 20 years, He was a member of First United Methodist Church of
Statesboro and was a World War II veteran.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Ben H. Ivey; two daughters,
Mrs.Saundra McGrath, Castleton, N.Y., and Miss Debra Ruth Ivey,
Statesboro: one son, Ben Hill Ivey Jr., Statesboro three brothers, Carl
V. Ivey and William T. Ivey, Lincolnton, and John M. Ivey, Wilmington,
N.C.
Friends may call at Barnes Funeral Home, Statesboro, until Sunday
morning then at the church.

Landrum Hodges
Statesboro Ga. - Landrum Hodges, 51, died Tuesday in a Richmond County
hospital. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. today at the Smith-Tillman
Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Fred McLendon officiating. Burial will be
in the East Side Cemetery. Mr. Hodges was a native of Jenkins County,
but lived in Statesboro 18 years. He was owner and operator of the
Ideal Cleaners, a member of the First United Methodist Church and a
veteran of the Korean War. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Dixie
Hodges; two sons, Winn Hodges and Landrum Hodges Jr.; Statesboro one
sister, Mrs. Pauline Rhinebold, Cape May, N.J.; and two brothers,
Anderson Hodges Millen, Ga., and Robbie E. Hodges, Statesboro

Mrs. M. Strassburger
Statesboro Ga. - Mrs. Margaret Morgan Strassburger, Margaret 97, died
Thursday Feb. 25,1993, at
Statesboro Nursing Home, following an extended Illness.
Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. today in Pinewood Cemetery,
Daytona Beach, Fla.
Mrs. Strassburger, a native of Starke, Fla.. had lived in Statesboro
since 1976 and was a member of Daytona Beach
First Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, James P. Redding Sr. Statesboro and four
grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Statesboro First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Hattie Worley
Mrs. Hattie Smith Dickey Worley. 76, of 825 Phillips St., died Friday
in a local hospital after an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Big Horse Creek
Baptist Church, Millen. Ga. Burial will be in the churchyard cemetery.
A native of Bulloch County, Mrs. Worley was the daughter of Mose and
Liza Smith. She was the widow of Buster Worley and a member of Curtis
Baptist Church. Mrs. Worley had lived in Augusta for the past 20 years.
Survivors include two grand-daughters, Mrs. L. R. Brown, Gastonia,
N.C., Mrs. J. W. Shaffer, Sardis, Ga.; seven great-grandchildren; two
brothers, Allie Smith, Savannah, Ga., Ossie D. Smith, Augusta; also a
number of nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at Elliott Sons Funeral Home until 2 p.m. Sunday when
the body will be taken to the church.

Millen. Ga. — Funeral services for Mrs. Nettie B Joyner Crews. 73. who
died Saturday night in a Bulloch County hospital, will be held today at

and Bill Barksdale officiating. Burial wiJl be in the church cemetery.
