Mrs Mary Ann Cowart, wife of Mr. D.
C. Cowan, of Metter Ga. one of the first residents of Garfield, was
buried at Hebron church here, Iast Sunday. having died Saturday of
heart failure. She leaves an aged husband, several married children and
many grand-children and friends to mourn her death.

Man
Accidently Shot
Metter, Jan.
11.—L.B.. Hulsey died
here—Thursday from the affects of a wound accidentally Inflicted
January 1. The bullet entered his chin and is believed to have lodged
tn his spinal column. The remains have been taken to Cleveland,
the boyhood home of Mr Hulsey,
The deceased
was a member of the Masonic lodge here. Besides his parents he is
survived by bis wife and six children

Raleigh H. Rogers Passes at Metter
Metter, Ga,
Oct. 13—Raleigh H. Rogers, 56, of Route 1, Cobbtown, adornment farmer
of Candler county, died this morning at a Metter hospital alter art
illness of several months.
Funeral
services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the
Primitive Grove church three miles south of Metter with Elder J. Walter
Hendricks of Savannah officiating, assisted by Elder C;E. Sanders of
Stflson and Elder F. H. Silts of Metter. Interment will be in the
church cemetery.
Active and
honorary pallbearers will be members of the Metter Masonic lodge, all
members being asked to be at the lodge hall at 1 p. m.
Mr. Rogers,
one oi the most extensive farmers and landowners in Candler county, was
the son of the late Jim Rogers and Mrs. Margie Bird Rogers of jCandler
county.
He was a
member ot the Primitive Grove church near Metter, a member of the
Metter Masonic lodge, the American Legion and the board of county
commissioners.
Survivors are
his wife, Mrs. Vera Collins Rogers; one daughter, Mrs. Michael M. Bland
of Metter; two sons, Howard Rogers and Joe Hubert Rogers of Metter; two
sisters, Mrs. J. L. Dixon of Atlanta and Mrs. J. S. Bird of Miami,
Fla.; and three brothers, J. F. Rogers of. Metter, O W. Rogers of
Highland City. Fla., and John Tom Rogers of San Francisco. Calif.

Mrs. Brannen
Metter, Ga. -
Mrs. Vennie Sikes Brannen,
73,
of Metter, died in a Savannah hospital Thursday afternoon from
Injuries received in an automobile accident Aug. 1.
Mrs. Brannen
was a native of Tatnall County but had lived in Candler County most of
her life. She was a member of the Metter Methodist Church.
Survivors
include her husband. A. L. Brannen Sr. of Metter; five daughters, Mrs.
Homer Carter and Mrs. W. M. Hancock, both of Augusta. Mrs. Eva
Seckinger of Savannah, Mrs. Cecil Bland of DeLand, Fla., and Mrs.
Edward Long of Savannah ; six step-daughters, Mrs. Richard Key of
Macon. Mrs. OUie Mae Nesmith of Metter, Mrs. Eva Slater of Metter, Mrs.
C. E. Futch of Savannah. Mrs. Glen Beard of Garden City and Mrs. V. E.
Gracen of Pooler; four step-sons, Otis Brannen of Ft. Meyers, Fla..
Lester, Brannen of Register, Ga., Adam Brannen of Miami, Fla., A. L.
Brannen Jr. of Statesboro, Ga.; three brothers, Jerry Sikes and Eli
Sikes. both of Lake Wales, Fla., and Miles Sikes of Kissimmee. Fla.:
three sisters, Mrs. Fronnie Powell of Savannah. Mrs. Eddie Mosley of
Brunswick and Miss Jencie Sikes of Milledgeville. Ga.: 32
grandchildren; and 49 great-grandchildren.
Funeral
services will be held at 1 p.m. today at the Metter Methodist Church
with the Rev. Jodie Robertson officiating.

John N, Lanier
Metter, Ga. John N Lanier, 84. died Wednesday in
a Candler County hospital.
The funeral
will be held at 4 p.m, today at Primitive Grove Primitive Baptist
Church, with Elder T. Roe Scott officiating, assisted by Dr.C. D.
Horton. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Lanier
was a member of the board of directors at a Metter bank.
He was a
