Opelika, February 20—[Special.]— Mrs. Harrell, one of the oldest and most highly respected ladies of Cusseta died at her home in that place last night. The remains were interred in the  Cusseta cemetery this evening at three o'clock. The deceased has many relatives and friends in this city, being the grand-mother of our brilliant young attorney,   Mr. Claxton Smith. Date: 1895-02-21; Paper: Columbus Daily Enquirer

REV. W. D. VAUGHN DIED. AT CUSSETA
Rev. W. D. Vaughn died suddenly at Cusseta, Ga., Wednesday of heart, trouble. He went to Cusseta Saturday to do same carpenter work and the news of his death was a great surprise to his friends. Mr, Vaughn was 61 years of age. He was a Baptist minister, but also did carpenter work. He leaves three children, J. D. and J. T. Vaughn, of Columbus, and  C. R. Vaughn, of Lawrence county, Ga., also two sisters Mrs, Phebia Sudenbury and Mrs. S. R. Laughton. of Mt. Camel, S.C. The funeral took, place from his residence, 405 Twelfth street, Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, after which interment took place in Riverside cemetery. A CHILD'S DEATH.
Infant Son of Mr. J. J. Tumlin Died This Morning. J. J. Tumlin. Jr.. the three month old son of Mr. J. J. Tumlin died at his father's residence, 508 Eleventh Street, this morning at 1 o'clock, after a short illness of cholera Infantum. The remains will be taken  to Cusseta this morning for interment Three months ago. when the little one was two days old his  mother died and was taken to Cusseta. The babe will be buried in the same grave with its mother. Mr. Tumlin's many friends will be sorry to hear of this, his second misfortune. Date: 1901-04-24;  Paper: Columbus Daily Enquirer

Death Near Cusseta.
Mrs Martha Jones died at her residence near Cusseta, Ga. about 5 o'clock Sunday afternoon, after an illness of about eight weeks from general debility. The deceased was about 57 years, of age. and was a member of the Primitive Baptist church. Mrs. Jones leaves four children to mourn her loss. They are Mr. L. M. Jones and Mrs Genie Parkman, of near Cusseta; Mrs. D. M. Chapman, of this city; Mrs. M. A. Reeves of Pine Bluff, Ark. The funeral took place from the family residence at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon, and the Interment occurred at Cusseta. Date: 1898-10-11;  Paper: Columbus Daily Enquirer

DEATH AT CUSSETA.
Little Son of the Methodist Minister Succumbs. Cusseta Ga., March 7.—(Special.)— Willie, the six year old son of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Arnold, died here yesterday of membranous croup. Mr. Arnold is our Methodist pastor, and is originally from Wilkinson county. Rev. Mr. Hoyle. pastor of Pearce Chapel. Columbus, conducted the sad services in the presence of a large number of Borrowing friends. Judge E. E. Brewer has accepted a very responsible position with the Griffin Ice Works. In losing the judge Cusseta does not only lose one of her most-moral young men, but one of her best baseball players. Miss Minnie Norris, who has been the guest of Miss Estelle Hickey, for the past two weeks, has returned to her home in LaCross. Miss Minnie made numerous friends during her short stay here. Death At Cusseta Mr.  W. F. Benttey Passes Away at the Age of 74. Cusseta Ga., April 21 (special) Mrs. W. F. Bentley died  at her home near here yesterday evening at 3 p.m., at the advanced age of 74 years. She was married three times, first to Q. J. Hickey, second to Thos. O. Whigham and third to W P. Bentley. She was an estimable Christian lady, having been a member of the Methodist church for the past forty years. Five children survive her as follows. Col E T Hickey, Mrs. J H. Bussey and Mrs. R. N. Simpson,of Waverly Hall; Mrs. John W. King, of Box Springs, and Miss Willie Bentley of Cusseta. Her remains  were laid to rest at the Mt Olive cemetery this afternoon, Rev. E. Gardner, officiating.   A large crowd of friends were present to pay tribute to her memory. Date: 1902-04-22;  Paper: Columbus Daily Enquirer

Sad Death at Cusseta.
Mrs. Hortense Hawkins Passed Away Yesterday C.a . Aug. 10.—After several weeks' illness from progressive paraly sis. Mrs. Hortense H. Hawkins, one of the best beloved ladies in Cusseta died today. Mrs. Hawkins had lived here since her early childhood and in all the pathway or her years, there is not one shadow, and If, tomorrom. all those she has helped by kind words, kind deeds and the helpful influence of her Christian character and pure life could be present and each lay one little blossom on her grave, shewould sleep beneath a mountain of freshest flowers. When a young woman she was married to Captain C. H. Hawkins, of Oglethorpe county, then  serving in the army of the Confederacy. Captain Hawkins left Mercer University, graduating with first honor, and enlisted In the army. Shortly afterward he and Mrs. Hawkins were married. They had own married only three months when he leading his company in a gallant charge at the battle of Winchester,  met his death. There was something beautifully pathetic in her devotion to his memory. All thee years she jealously cared for his uniform, and today 'tis as bright and beautiful as it was when first worn Mr. Hawkins leaves one brother, Hon. Leonidas McLester, and four sisters, Mrs. Wooten. of Monroe county; Mrs. W, F. Shipp. of Americus; Mrs. Emory Jefferson, of Columbus, and Mrs. Captain Davis, Green Hill  besides a host of friends in different sections of the state, to mourn her loss. Every heart has been saddened here, and all extend, to the bereaved family sincere sympathy, comforting them with the words— Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God." Luther Miller
The funeral of Luther, the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. L. E. S. Miller, who died at the home of his parents at Chattahoochee, Ga., Tuesday, was held at Greenberg, Bond & Bloomfield’s private chapel Wednesday morning at 11 o’clock and the interment was at Masons cemetery.
