MURDERED AT SUPPER – Rivalry In Evil
Ways Draws Blood in a Georgia Town
Chattanooga, April 25 –
News has reached this city of the brutal murder at Coal City, Ga of
John Sells, a young mining boss, by Lee Jordan, a young convict
guard. Jordan had been making threats for several weeks that he
would kills Sells if he ever had an opportunity, and at the supper
table, after a tirade of abuse, pulled a pistol out of his bosom and
shot Sells through the breast. Sells rose to his feet and started
to the door, when a second bullet brought him down and he died in a few
minutes. The murderer made good his escape, flourishing his
pistol and threatening to kill any one who came near him. Both
young men belonged to good families. A reward is offered for Jordan’s
arrest, and he will probably be lynched if captured. It is said
that there was a lewd woman in the case and the men were rivals for her
favor.
