Fannin County to Have a Hanging, from the Ellijay Courier.
Ancil Green and Ed Green were convicted of the murder of William Keener. Ancil was sentenced to hang on the 3rd day
of July next and Ed was sentenced to life imprisonment.
The two are brothers and married sisters, the daughters of Ayers Jones, who gained so much notoriety in the case of
the killing of Lieut. McIntyere of the United States army some years ago. Two other are implicated in the crime but not yet tried.
This was the most horrible and revolting murder; such as to curdle the blood in our veins and cause the cry of justice to ascend to heaven.
It is a sad and sickening scene to see a poor wretch expiate his crime on the gallows, but justice must be done; the law must be vindicated
and enforced and men made to know that the way of the transgressor is hard.
It is a maxim of the law that mercy to the guilty is cruelty to the innocent. Let the law take its course, that crime may be suppressed. The
moving motive in this murder, it seems, was to get the murdered man out of the way as a witness in order to cover up another crime.
