Jasper County, Georgia                         A Proud Member of the Genealogy Trails Group JASPER COUNTY This County, formed in 1812, comprised part of old Randolph County, which was formed in 1808, and afterwards divided up into Jasper and Baldwin Counties. In the basement of the new Court House at Monticello, are many volumes and scraps of volumes of the records of that defunct county. While the room they are in may be fireproof, it is not mould and dust proof, and it will not take long in such quarters to completely ruin these valuable relics. They should be carefully sorted out and either transcribed or put in better shape for reference. The First Book of Marriages, a thin one of 27 pages, 1808 to 1810, has no index, and contains about 1,000 marriage records. The Second Book, 1810 to 1821, and the later ones are indexed. In the Clerk’s office there are seven old books of deeds that are not included in the General Index, which begins 1818, and there are also several old books of minutes of the Superior Court that contain interesting history.
