Hurshel Marlin Chapman

Hurshel Marlin Chapman, of Pleasant Grove, Alabama went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 7, 2007 after a short illness.

Hurshel was born April 22, 1933 in Chatsworth, Georgia. He was the son of Merle Benjamin Chapman and Mrs. Delanie (Chapman) Lewis.

He was preceded in death by his brother, David Lewis.

He is survived by his mother, Delanie (Chapman) Lewis; his wife, Margaret Chapman; his six children, Terry Chapman and spouse Brenda of Chatsworth, Georgia, Terry Chapman and spouse Brenda of Chatsworth, GA, Edward Chapman and spouse Anita of Chatsworth, GA, Anna McConathy and spouse Allen Adger, Alabama, Hubert Chapman and spouse Tracy of Hoover, Alabama, and Cathy Cribbs of Concord, Alabama. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren, Brent Harrison and spouse Angie, Candie Davis and spouse Rick, Stephanie Chapman, Alex McConathy, Harley Chapman, Jada Chapman, and Tray Cribbs. He had five great-grandchildren, Austin Davis, Gracie Davis, Ashley Harrison, Brendon and Breann Harrison. He is also survived by his three sisters, Kay Ratcliff and spouse Danny of Chatsworth, GA, Faye Miles and spouse Tommy of Chatsworth, GA, and Ella Fair Graham of Calhoun, GA, and ten brothers, Dennis Chapman and spouse Deloris of Chatsworth, GA, Claude Chapman and spouse Irene of Chatsworth, GA, Robert Chapman of Chatsworth, GA, Travis Chapman and spouse Cathy of Athens, AL, Marvin Chapman and spouse Helen of Jacksonville, AL, Bobby Chapman of Cedartown, AL, Grady Lee Lewis of Chatsworth, GA, Jimmy Lewis and spouse Sue of Chatsworth, GA, Floyd Porter and spouse Mary of Piedmont, AL and Fred Porter and spouse Dean of Enigma, GA.

Hurshel attended Brooklane Baptist Church and was a member of the Gideons International. He served as an aircraft machinist in the United States Air Force and was Honorably Discharged. He also owned Chapman Textiles, with locations in Birmingham, Alabama and Dalton, Georgia. He loved to bird hunt and be outdoors. He enjoyed being with his family and loved his six children. He dedicated his life to serving the Lord. His favorite Bible verse was Proverbs 3:5-6.

The family will receive visitors at Brooklane Baptist Church on June 8, 2007, between the hours of 11:00 and 1:00. Services will be held at the church at 1:00 the same day. The family will receive visitors at Shawn Chapman Funeral Home in Chatsworth, Georgia on June 9, 2007 from 12:00 to 2:00. Services will be held at the funeral home at 2:00 p.m. with interment immediately following the service at New Hope-Kilgore Cemetery.
