"Douglas and Burns, the marble men, are
putting up several beautiful monuments in the Morris cemetery"
Idaho Daily Statesman, Boise City, Idaho November 10, 1888
"Morris Hill Cemetery
During the past few days Mayor Pinney has had a force of men at work
repairing the fences around the 80 acre block of --- on the south
side of the river. This --- and was purchased by the city
several years ago for cemetery purposes, and at the suggestion
of Mayor Pinney was named 'Morris Hill Cemetery,' --- a portion of
the large tract, first --- and cultivated by -.W. -or.
The Cemetery site was purchased by the city of Mr. Wm. -.R----- for
the sum of two thousand dollars. Mr. ---- was Mayor of Boise City at
the time, and during his term of office, --------- many improvements
------------------------ constructed, fencing? --------shade trees,
etc. ------- then had ----- surveyed and staked off into cemetery
blocks and lots, after which the city sold to the county a block of
five acres to be used as a public burial ground, and also sold a
large block to the Catholic church authorities. Thus
everything seemed to promise that Morris Hill Cemetery would in a
few years be all that could be wished for the purpose designed. But
from some cause, during the past four years, the property has been
neglected, so that much of the work that was so well begun, has now
to be recommenced."
Idaho Daily Statesman, Boise City Idaho December 5, 1889
"Something must be done to improve the
road to the Morris Hill cemetery. It is a disgrace to leave it in
such a condition. Persons going to funerals are fairly suffocated
with dust. It is a shame to maintain such a road over which the dead
are carried to their last resting place." Idaho Daily Statesman
Boise City Id. Sept. 28, 1899
