Alturas is a defunct county in Idaho. It was created in 1864 and lasted until 1895. Most present day southern counties were created at least in part from Alturas so be sure and check the other counties that formed from Alturas for data. Alturas comes from a Spanish word for "mountain summits" or "mountainous heights"
