county was established March 5, 1895 by combining Alturas and Logan
counties, with Hailey as the county seat. Its present boundaries
were set on February 18, 1919, when a western portion became Camas
county. Named for James G. Blaine, U.S. Secretary of State
(1889-1892) under President Benjamin Harrison. The area was first explored in 1818
by Donald Mackenzie. By the 1880s,
