Feel free to email us with your contributions - every little bit helps someone!!

This county site needs a dedicated host to make this site the best that it can be!
If you think that you may be interested in volunteering to host this site, or any of the other sites we have available,
or to join our Genealogy Trails Transcription Team,
please view our Volunteer Information Page.

(A desire to transcribe data and the know-how to make a basic webpage is required)

Feel free to email us with any and all contributions that you may have - every little bit helps someone!

We regret that we are unable to do personal research.

A Little Bit of History

Idaho County was originally founded as a region of the Washington Territory in 1861, named for a steamer called Idaho that was launched on the Columbia River in 1860 and served miners during the gold rush in north Idaho. It was reorganized by the Idaho Territorial Legislature on February 4, 1864. In this context, the name of the county predates both the Idaho Territory and the State of Idaho. The present county seat is Grangeville. Previous county seats were Florence (1864-1875) and Mount Idaho (1875-1902). At just over 8,500 square miles, Idaho County is the state's largest county by area.
