This
website is part of the Genealogy Trails family and our goal is to help
you track your ancestors through time by transcribing genealogical and
historical data and placing it online for the free use of all
researchers.
This county site needs a dedicated host
to make this site the best that it can be!
If you think that
you
may be interested in volunteering to host this site or any of the
other sites we have available, or to join our Genealogy Trails
Transcription Team,
please view our Volunteer
Information Page.
(A desire to
transcribe data and the know-how to make a basic webpage is required)
Feel free to email us with any and all
contributions that you may have - every little bit helps someone!
I regret that I am unable to do personal
research.

| Owyhee
County was established December 31, 1863 with its county seat at Ruby
City. This was the first county to be established by the first
territorial legislature. In 1867 the county seat was moved to Silver
City and in 1934 to Murphy. Named for the river, mountains and mining
area explored by Hawaiian fur trappers in 1819-1820. Hawaii and Owyhee
are different spellings of the same word. Gold was discovered on Jordan
Creek in 1863, and millions of dollars of gold and silver were taken
from Silver City region until the industry declined in the early 1900s. |

Submit Cemetery Information
A
wonderful source of genealogical information that is very useful are
cemetery headstones. They provide key data such as dates of birth,
marriage information and dates of death. To submit headstone
information please click
here.
|
Submit Obituary Information
Obituaries
are one of the most important tools used by researchers in tracing
their family roots. Please consider contributing any obituary
information that you may have by submitting them here
and filling out the transmittal form.
Please include your
email address should we have any questions.

As
your Idaho State Coordinator, I try to post as much source data online
as possible in order to make it freely available to all researchers. We
gratefully accept contributions of raw data such as
marriage/birth/death records, obituaries, county histories,
biographies, old newspaper items, census information, - anything that would help someone
build their family tree! Feel free to email me, Sandra Davis, with
your contributions - every little bit helps someone!

Remember
to look around at the other
states and consider donating your source information.
