Heinrich Berghofer
Heinrich Berghöfer was born in Waldeck
on September 29, 1807 and came to Palmyra in 1844, where he married
Henriette Schaller on March 26, 1845. His wife was born March 31, 1826
in Sachsenhausen, Waldeck, a daughter of Johann Stephan Schaller and his
wife Friederike nee Krummel, and came to Palmyra in 1844. For many years
Heinrich Berghöfer was an engineer in the first flour mill in Palmyra;
he departed this life March 9, 1895; his wife died August 13, 1906.
Wilhelm Berghöfer, the oldest son of the above-mentioned couple, came to
Quincy at the beginning of the 1860's and learned tin smithing here from
his uncle Christoph Dasbach. He proved to be very adept at this trade,
was crowned with success, and for many years has been operating his own
business doing all kinds of work in tin, sheet metal, galvanized iron,
etc., employing a number of workers. His brothers Heinrich, Eduard, and
Jacob all learned tinsmithing. Heinrich has retired from business and is
living in Quincy; Eduard is working in his brother's factory; and Jacob
operates a tinsmithing business in Palmyra.
