J. W. Caldwell
| Physician and Surgeon, was born in Adams county, Illinois, and is now forty-three years of age. His father was a farmer
and the son helped with the duties of the farm. He attended school at Quincy College and also McKendree College in Illinois. Took a course in the Jefferson Medical College of
Philadelphia, graduating therefrom in 1863; also graduated in Bellevue Hospital Medical College, New York, in 1866. From the spring of 1863 until the close of the war Dr.
Caldwell was assistant surgeon in the 97th Ohio Regiment. He found a wife in the person of Miss Isabell Calvin, of Adams county, Illinois, whom he married in October,
1866. By this union they have one child, Victor, twelve years of age. Dr. Caldwell came to Kansas City in 1868, and has since been engaged in the practice of his profession,
with a large degree of success. He is well and favorably known among his brother practitioners, and to the sick is always a welcome visitor.
