William Shaw
Marlene Olson was kind enough to send
this information on the descendents of William Shaw. She is researching
the Shaw family and is attempting to connect this William Shaw to her
family. Marlene writes:
"I'm studying the Shaw family to try to connect to my William Shaw b.
1792 born in Tennessee, < Territory of North Carolina or United States
Territory SW of the Ohio River or Walker Line (KY or TN) or Virginia
which became Kentucky in 1800. Among my papers, I found this paper that
refers a Samuel Shaw died in Adams County, IL. I hope this may help a
descendant of the Shaw family. I can me reached here "Marlene" if
someone wants to connect to Shaw family.

Letter from A.D. Hiller, Executive Assistant to the Administrator about
Samuel Shaw.
Samuel Shaw died 1 July 1837 in Adams County, IL. There is no family
data.
The record of the only Samuel Shaw of Pennsylvania that is found on the
Revolutionary War records of this office is furnished to you herein as
found in the papers on file in the Revolutionary War pension claim,
S.31359, based upon his military service in that war.
Samuel Shaw was born in May 1756, in Ireland, place, day, and the names
of his parents are not shown.
While a resident of Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, Samuel Shaw
enlisted August 3, 1776, served in Captain Clark's Company, Colonel
Frederick Watt's Pennsylvania Regiment and was discharged October 10,
1776. He enlisted in December 1776, served in Captain David Mitchell's
Company, Colonel Frederick Watt's Pennsylvania Regiment and was
discharged in April 1777. He enlisted in December 1777, served in
Captain William Blaine's Company, Colonel Samuel Lyon's Pennsylvania
Regiment; and in the battles of Whitemarsh and Gulphs Mill, and was
discharged in March 1778. He enlisted in 1778 and served two months in
Captain William Blaine's Company, Colonel Samuel Lyon's Pennsylvania
Regiment.
About 1795 he moved to Bourbon County, Kentucky, and about 1836 he moved
to Adams County, Illinois.
He was allowed pension on his application executed November 17, 1832, at
which time he was a resident of Adams County, Illinois.
He died July 1, 1837, in Adams County, Illinois.
