Tamms, IL.--COLEEN MAE DURHAM CAIN,
age 76, of Tamms, Ill. died at 12:25 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2005 at the
Life Care Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Mrs. Cain was born May 25, 1929
at Elco, Ill., daughter of the late Gilbert Durham and Annie (Bass)
Durham. Mrs. Cain was a member of the Sandy Creek Baptist Church near
Tamms and was a housewife and a homemaker. Mrs. Cain was preceded in
death by her husband, Orville Cain, on May 19, 1989. Survivors include
a son, Gregory Orville Cain and wife, Cathy Cain; four grandchildren,
Gregory Orville Cain, Jr., Elizabeth Ann Cain, Jonathan Henry Cain and
Alan Michael Cain; sister, Virginia Kaufman, all of Tamms; several
nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Coleen M. Cain will be held at
11 a.m. Thursday, June 2, 2005 at the Jones Funeral Home in Tamms with
Rev. Larry Buckles officiating. Interment will follow in the St. John's
Cemetery near Dongola, Ill. Friends called from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday,

Tamms, IL.--HERMAN EUGENE CAIN, 57, of Tamms, Rt. 1, died Saturday, Nov 28, (1992) at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, MO. He was born in Tamms on June 25, 1935 to Herman Otto and Grace May Holshouser Cain. He married in Tamms to Mary Kay Pasdertz. She survives, along with one son, Randy Cain of Tamms; two daughters, Karen Schultz of Olive Branch, IL and Sharon Cain of Tamms; three brothers, William "Bud" Cain of Tamms, Freddie Cain of Paris, FL, James David Cain of Wyoming, IL; two sisters, Farie McRaven of Tamms and Pat Powers of Joliet, IL; and five grandchildren. Cain was a member of the Sandy Creek Baptist Church near Tamms, where he served as a church deacon and Sunday School superintendent. He was a machinist with the Missouri Pacific and Union Pacific Railroad for 26 years. Friends may call after 5 p.m., today at the Jones Funeral Home in Tamms. Funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at the Sandy Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Albert Moore officiating. Burial will be in the McCrite Cemetery near Tamms.
Tamms, IL.--ORVILLE CAIN--Funeral
service for Orville Cain of Tamms will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at
Sandy Creek Baptist Church. Rev. Albert Moore will officiate,
with burial in St. John's Cemetery near Dongola. Friends may call
at Jones Funeral Home here after 5 p.m. today. Cain, 67 years
old, died Friday, May 19, 1989 at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, TN.
He was born Oct. 26, 1921 at Tamms, son of Fred and Linnie
Loraine Holshauser Cain. He married the former Coleen Durham.
Cain was manager of Zink's Apartments at Tamms, and member of
Sandy Creek Church. He served in the U. S. Army during World War
II. Survivors include his wife; a son, and daughter-in-law,
Gregory and Cathy Cain of Jackson, MO; two brothers, Raymond and Marion
Cain of Tamms; a sister, Virgie Eudy of Jonesboro, IL; two
grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in
death by a brother.
Tamms, IL.--MILDRED LOUISE WOODNEY CAIN--Mrs. Raymond Cain, 52 years old, of Tamms died Wednesday morning at St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau following an extended illness. Mrs. Cain was born June 20, 1923 in Unity, IL and on Nov. 12, 1946, the former Miss Mildred Louise Woodney married Raymond Cain. Surviving : her husband; son, Kenneth Ray Cain, at home; daughter, Mrs. David Proffer, Olive Branch, IL; brother Eugene Woodney, Unity; sister, Mrs. Pat Malley, Mounds, IL; and an aunt, Mrs. May Goodman, Cairo, IL. The body is at Fransworth Funeral Home here where friends may call after 4 this afternoon. Service will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday afternoon at the funeral home with the Rev. Johnny Gibson, pastor of Elco Pentecostal Church officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery near Dongola, IL.
TAMMS, IL -RANDY E. CAIN, 40, died at 4:04 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, at his home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 17, 2008, in Sandy Creek
Baptist Church in Tamms. Burial will be in McCrite Cemetery. Visitation
will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008, at Crain Funeral Home
in Tamms.

Murphysboro, IL–EDNA M. CALDWELL, age 80, of Murphysboro, died at 8:55AM, Thursday, August 27, 2009 at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.
She was born on April 21, 1929 in Olive Branch, IL to Joseph E. and
Audrey K. (Bedwell) Bennett. She married Finley “Doc”
Caldwell. He survives her.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Murphysboro. She taught
school for 20 years at Washington School and Carruthers School both in
Murphysboro. She loved spending time with her family, was a seamstress
and an excellent cook.
She is survived by her husband, Doc of Murphysboro; 1 daughter, Lisa
Butler of Murphysboro; 2 granddaughters, Margo Laminack of Lick Creek
and Catey Butler of Murphysboro; 1 great granddaughter, Rebecca
Laminack of Lick Creek; 2 brothers, David (Candace) Bennett of Herrin
and Floyd (Kathy) Bennett of Troy; 1 sister, Wanda (Tom) McDaniel of
Ava; 1 sister-in-law, Shirley Bennett of Alto Pass; nieces, nephews,
other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, Joseph Bennett,
Delbert Bennett and Denver Bennett and 1 sister, Daisy Ferguson.
Funeral services were conducted at 11:00AM, Monday, August 31, 2009 at
Crain Pleasant Grove-Murdale Funeral Home, old Rt 13 between Carbondale
and Murphysboro with Rev. Shaker Samuel officiating. Interment followed
in Pleasant Grove Memorial Park.

Thebes, IL--ZELMA MAE CALDWELL,
87, lifetime resident of Thebes, died at 12:03 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1,
2006 in Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. She was born on
Aug. 12, 1918 in Chaffee, Mo., to Arlie and Eva (Gettings) Browning.
She married William Caldwell on April 12, 1937 in Vienna, by the Rev.
H. G. Hurley. He preceded her in death.
Young Zelma became a Christian at age 12. She was a member of Thebes
Methodist Church since 1943 and served in all capacities, except the
pulpit, until the church was closed. She then transferred to the Olive
Branch United Methodist Church, where she was a delegate to the annual
conference for 14 years. She served as pianist and church board member
in Olive Branch Church.
A civic-minded woman, she contributed greatly to her church and
community. She was the director and site manager for the Thebes Senior
Citizens. She was also secretary and treasurer of Woodmen of the World
for many years. She was curator of the Thebes Historic courthouse. She
was a member of the Thebes Women's Club, the Thebes Historical Society
and the Thebes Home Extension.
She is survived by one son, Bill Caldwell and wife, Frieda, of Thebes;
one daughter, Betty Walden and husband, Don, of Olive Branch; three
grandsons, Rom Isom and wife, Romona, of Chesapeake, Va., John Isom and
wife, Kerry, of Huntsville, Ala., and Zac Caldwell of Thebes; one
granddaughter, Tara Caldwell of Cape Girardeau; one sister, Mary
Browning of Olive Branch; two brothers, Ernest Browning and Clearn
Browning, both of Olive Branch; two stepgrandsons, Same park of Los
Angeles, Calif., and Britt Park of St. Louis; three stepgranddaughters,
Dana Park of St. Louis, and Teresa Jesenovec and husband, Bob, and
Peggy Ingram and husband, Terry, all of Waukegan; great-grandson,
Austin Caldwell of Tamms; great-granddaughters, Krystal Caldwell of
Tamms, Elise, Racheal and Dorothy Isom of Chesapeake and Anna Isom of
Huntsville; stepgreatgrandsons, Chris Park of St. Louis, Lance Myer of
Benton, Mo., and Gregory Householder, Adam and Michael Jesenovec, all
of Waukegan; step-greatgranddaughters, Veronica Park of St. Louis, Amy
Householder of Waukegan and Yolanda Jeffery and Sydni Martz of
Huntsville; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers,
Delorian, Russell, Enos and Maurice Browning; and her great-grandson,
John David Isom.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Crain Funeral Home in Tamms,
with Pastor Pete Ryan and the Rev. Carl Fisher officiating. Interment

Riverside, CA--GENEVA CAMPBELL,
65, died Friday (Sept. 14, 2001) of complications of cancer at Parkview
Community Hospital in Riverside. Born in Miller City, Ill., Mrs.
Campbell lived in Riverside 35 years. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Emerson; a daughter, Vicki Slater of
Riverside; five sons, Donald, Ronald, Wayne and John, all of Riverside,
and Jeffrey of Costa Mesa; her father, Lamar Houston Sr. of Illinois;
nine grandchildren; four brothers, Abraham, Robert, Larry and Lamar
Houston Jr., all of Illinois; and a sister, Frances Niel of Illinois.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Acheson & Graham Garden of
Prayer Mortuary in Riverside. Friends may call from 5 until 9 p.m.
Thursday at the mortuary. Interment will be private.

Modesto, CA--LUSTERINE LOCKETT CAMPBELL Oct. 26, 1910 -- July 26, 2003 --Lusterine Lockett Campbell, 92, of Modesto died Saturday at Memorial Medical Center.
Mrs. Campbell was a native of Miller City, Ill. She lived in Palo Alto
many years before moving to Modesto a year ago. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her daughter, Thelma Gentry of Modesto; and five
grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and seven
great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Andrew
P. Campbell.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m Friday at Progressive Missionary Baptist

Mrs. Campbell, 81, of Elco died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 1989 at the Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, MO. She was born Aug. 27, 1907 at Delta, daughter of Walter and Sanny Perkins West. She was first married to Rev. Clarence "Cotton" Bridges. He died in 1950. Her second marriage was to Robert Campbell, who preceded her in death. She was a member of the Elco Baptist Church. Survivors include sons, Leonard Bridges of Tamms, James Bridges of Neosho, MO and Don Bridges of Godfrey, IL; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A daughter, Sarah Joyce Bridges Hall, preceded her in death in 1988; also an infant daughter, infant son and a grandson.

Olive Branch, IL--CECIL CARNER,
71, of Olive Branch, died Tuesday, Apr. 21, 1992 at his home. He
was born Sept 12, 1920 at Jonesboro, AR, son of Curtis and Zella Martin
Carner. He and Mary Clutts were married March 31, 1978.
Carner was a member of Alexander Free Will Baptist Church, Olive
Branch Chamber of Commerce, Olive Branch Association and was president
of Happy Hour Senior Citizens.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Lucille Masterson of Olive
Branch, Carolyn Denton of Cairo, Mary Kaufman of Thebes; twe stepsons,
Kenneth Calvert of Olive Branch, Terry Calvert of Royalton; three
stepdaughters, Sharon Ruff of Beale Air Force Base, CA, Sherri Marlo of
Westhampton, N.J., Angela Calvert of Royalton; two brothers, Howard
Carner of Norman, IN, Henry Carner of Odessa; a sister, Ethel Newman of
Tamms; seven grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; four
great-grandchildren; and two great-stepgrandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Alexander Free Will

Maryville, IL.--GORDON G. "Bunk" CARSON,
70 of Maryville, Ill., born July 8, 1936 in Ullin, IL, died Sunday, May
6, 2007 at his residence. Mr. Carson was retired after 43 years
of service with Illinois Central Railroad as an engineer. He was
a member of the Masonic Lodge 712 in Collinsville, IL, and Ainad
Shrine. He was a U. S. Army veteran and an avid golfer. He
was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mary Helen (nee Egner)
Carson. Surviving are his wife, Joyce (nee Smith) Carson of
Maryville; his children, Kathy (Kent) Cornell of Manchester, MO., and
Scott (Kendra) Carson of Edwardsville, IL; and four grandchildren,
Bryce and Alison Carson , Kyle and Dereck Cornell. Friends may

Tamms, IL.--FRANK CARTER,
51, of Tamms died unexpectedly at 5:00 a.m. at his home from an
apparent cerebral hemorrhage. He was the owner and operator of Carter
Motor Sales in Cairo and a veteran of World War II. He was born Nov.
13, 1921 in Delta and grew up and received his education in Elco. He
married Hazel May, who survives. Other survivors include a son, Benny
Carter, Olive Branch; a daughter, Mrs. Patsy Batson, Tamms; his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. George C. Carter, Elco; two brothers, George C.
Junior and Wayne, both of Elco; three sisters, Mrs. Virgie Baker,
Chicago, Mrs. Rosetta Rhymer, Anna and Mrs. Sue Starr, Elco; six
grandchildren and one great grandson. The body is at the family home on
Second Street where friends may call after 6:00 p.m. tonight. Funeral
services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Elco Baptist Church with
burial in the Jonesboro City Cemetery. Fransworth Funeral Home is in

Jonesboro, IL.--MYRTLE E. CARTER, 86, Jonesboro, died Saturday Nov. 25, 1989 at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. She was born Feb. 1, 1903 in Delta, daughter of Charlie and Ida Brown Dickerson. She was a housewife and a member of the Elco Baptist Church. In 1921 she married George Carter, Sr. He died November 1987. Survivors include two sons, Wayne of Anna and George Jr., Jonesboro; three daughters, Virgie Baker, Columbia, MO, Janet Sue Starr, New Douglas, IL and Rosetta Rhymer, Anna; two sisters, Frieda Burnett, Belleville, IL and Vartus Dodson, Anna; a total of 116 grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Norris and Son Funeral Home in Jonesboro with Rev. Lacie Betts, officiating. Burial will be in the Jonesboro Cemetery.
Thebes, IL.--GUY W. CARTNER,
age 73, of Thebes, died suddenly while supervising work on buildings at
his farm near Thebes, Thursday, about 5 p.m. He was prominent in
civic affairs at Thebes, having served as Mayor and served several
times as school director in the schools of Thebes. He was also
Road Commissioner of Road District No. 4. Mr. Cartner was active in
politics, having served as Republican committeeman for the Thebes
Precinct for many years. He is survived by his wife Ella; three
daughters, Mrs. Juanita Brown of Thebes, Mrs. Blanche Holmer of Morton,
Ill., and Mrs. Lana Tosi of Beverly, Mass.; four sons, Percy of
Metropolis, Guy Norman of Paducah, Ky., Oryn of Wichita, Kans., and
Wayne of Thebes; several grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services for Guy W. Cartner, age 72, of Thebes, who died
suddenly Thursday evening, will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Thebes
Methodist Church with the Rev. H. S. Smith of Olive Branch,
officiating. Besides relatives mentioned, he is also survived by one
sister, Mrs. Stella Dunning of Quincy, Ill. The body is at the family

Thebes, IL.--HENRY BENJAMIN CARTNER, aged 88 years, died suddenly Thursday morning at 8:15 o'clock at the home of his son, Guy Cartner, in Thebes. Mr. Cartner had been in failing health for several weeks, but had seemed to be improving the past few days, and had been active earlier in the morning. Funeral services were held from the Thebes Baptist church Friday afternoon, with the pastor, the Rev. H. S. Smith, conducting the services. Elco, IL.--MRS. NELLIE MCRAVEN CASPER, 89, Elco, died Friday at Union County Nursing Home in Anna. She was born near Ullin October 8, 1889. She was a member of the Elco Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons, Ben McRaven, Cypress, TX and Clifford McRaven, Paramount, CA; two daughters, Juanita Kerr, Elco and Loretta Beggs, New Athens; three step-sons, Claude and Mervin Casper of Anna and Fonzy Casper of Dongola; two step-daughters, Mrs. Charles Mc Intosh and Mrs. Ralph Sadler of Anna; 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. The body is at the Fransworth Funeral Home in Tamms where services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday with Rev. Jay Franklin officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
Tamms, IL.--FLORENCE CAUBLE, 83, of Tamms died Monday, Nov. 25, 1996 at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau, MO. She was born May 28, 1913 at Mill Creek, IL, daughter of Amos and Nellie Poole Baldwin. She and Norman F. "Chick" Cauble were married Dec. 21, 1928. He died Dec. 9, 1991. Cauble was a member of Elco Methodist Church. Survivors include two sons, Norman Cauble of Tamms and Ben Cauble of Jonesboro; a brother, Doyle Baldwin of McClure; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Friends may call at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms from 5-8 p.m. Friday and at the church after 10:00 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Tom Bailey will officiate, with burial in St. John's Cemetery.
Baudette, MN--LARRY T. CAUBLE, 62, Baudette, died Thursday, April 26, 2001, in Baudette.
Larry Thomas Cauble was born Sept. 26, 1938, the son of Alfred and
Lorraine (Swain) Cauble, in Elco, Ill. He moved with his family to
Chicago, where he graduated from high school in 1956. He married Donna
Glazier on May 4, 1958, in Chicago. They moved to Lake of the Woods
County, Minn., in 1963. From 1973 to 1994, he operated the Riverview
Lodge.
He is survived by his wife; children, Thomas (Sherri), Roseau, Minn.,
Laura Jo (Scott) Pieper, Williams, Minn., Kristine Moen, Baudette, and
David (Kristine), Omaha, Neb.; 11 grandchildren; and a brother, Rudy
(Jane)Cauble, Baudette.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services: 10 a.m. Monday, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Baudette.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. vigil service, Helgeson Funeral Chapel, Baudette.

Anna, IL.--NORMAN F. "CHICK" CAUBLE, age 85, of Tamms, died Monday, Dec. 9, 1991 at City Care Center in Anna. He was born Dec. 11, 1905 at Elco to Ben and Lucy Wareing Cauble. He married Florence Baldwin Dec. 21, 1928. She survives. He was a member of the Elco Methodist Church and the Pulaski-Alexander County Farm Bureau. He was a retired farmer. Other survivors include two sons, Lee of Tamms and Ben of Jonesboro; two sisters, Elsie Dillow, Jonesboro and Ruth Basilio, Chicago; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the Elco Methodist Church with Rev. Tom Bailey officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
Tamms, IL.--NORMAN LEE CAUBLE,
72, of Marion, Ill., formerly of Tamms, died at 5:05 a.m. Saturday, Jan
22, 2005, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale, Ill. He was born Sept.
11, 1932, at Elco, Ill., son of Norman F. and Florence Baldwin
Cauble. He and Shirley Hunter were married Nov. 4, 1950. Lee was
a veteran of the U. S. Air Force and for 30 years was a state trooper
with the Illinois State Police. After retirement he was a
part-time law enforcement instructor at Shawnee College. He was a
member of Heartland Christian Church in Marion. Survivors include his
wife of Marion; two daughters and sons-in-law, Leeann and Kris Killman
of Marion, Ruthie and Jon Hall of Benton, Ill.; a brother and
sister-in-law, Ben and Nita Cauble of Mumford, Tenn.; two
granddaughters, Lora Stanley and Sara Rone; and two stepgrandchildren,
Jon and Breeann. Visitation was held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24
and on Tuesday, Jan. 25 until time of service at Crain Funeral Home in
Tamms. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral
home, with Randy Allison officiating. Burial followed in St.

Cache, IL.-- Dies at Cache--August 23, 1936--MRS. CLARA J. CAVENDER, age 78 years, born September 25, 1858 in Cannelton, Indiana, well known and highly respected citizen of Alexander County for more than fifty years, died Sunday afternoon at 12:30 o’clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charley Rogers at Cache, Il. She is survived by one son, J.C. Cavender of Cache, one daughter, Mrs. Charley Rogers, postmistress at Cache and a stepdaughter, Mrs. Grace Hodges of Unity besides many other relatives and scores of friends who will mourn her death. Mrs. Cavender was a life long member of the Episcopal church of Cairo. Funeral Services were held this afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the Community Chapel near Roth, Il. with the Rev. J. B. Reeves of Dongola, officiating, followed by burial in Cavender Cemetery (Schindler Cemetery) on August 24, 1936. The services were largely attended. The following friends served as casket bearers: G.A. Smith, W. E. Parker, E. W. Jones, Paul Salmon, N. T. Hill, and W. C. Pecord. age 71, of Kansas City, KS, passed away January 3, 1998, at Providence

Mr. Cavender was born in Cache, IL. He was a plant electrician for TWA,
retiring in 1991 after 34 years of service. He was a Navy veteran of

MC CLURE, IL–WILLIAM CARL CEASE, age 69, of McClure, IL died at 10:00 AM, Thursday, February 24, 2011 at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born on February 19, 1942 in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey to Carl
and Genevieve (Stillwell) Cease Sr. He married Frances McMullin on
November 1, 2000.
William proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He attended House of Hope in Cape Girardeau
He is survived by his wife, Frances of McClure; 1 son, Michael Cease of
Jaco City, IL; 1 daughter, Michelle Surratt of West Frankfort, IL; 3
step daughters, Susan Haselbusch of Scott City, Carrie Lowes of Cape
Girardeau and Debbie Hunt of McClure; 1 step son, Roger Haselbusch of
Cape Girardeau; 1 sister, Dawn Blume of Kansas and 2 brothers, Carl

Cairo, IL.--THOMAS H. CHAMBLISS,
age 54, passed away at St. Mary's Hospital this morning at 1:45
o'clock. Mr. Chambliss who lived at 3803 Sycamore has been ill
since a fall July 10. He had operated a lunch stand at Thirty-eighth
and Sycamore for the past four years. Prior to that he was
manager of the Standard Oil station at Tenth and Washington for fifteen
years. He was a Spanish War veteran, having served the latter
part of the war in the Phillippines. He was discharged as a corporal.
Surviving besides his wife are two children, Norman A. and Rosalie; a
grandson, Ronald Edward of Cairo; two sisters, Mrs. Frances Morse of
Cairo and Mrs. D. A. Reese of Sikeston, Mo.; two brothers, Flavie of
Cairo and S. D. of Princeton, Ky; and other relatives. The body will
remain at Karcher's Funeral Home where friends may call. Funeral
services will be held at the funeral home Friday afternoon at 2
o'clock. Rev. W. P. Pearce, pastor of the Cairo Baptist church,
assisted by Rev. H. M. Cady, pastor of the Tigert Memorial church, will
officiate. Interment will be made in Spencer Heights cemetery.
Casket bearers will be James Tapley, William Penick, Elmer Hock, A. C.
Seawright, Clyde Mulcahy, and Robert Vowels. Karcher's Funeral

TAMMS -- G. JANETTE (PETTIT) CHAUDOIN, 72 of Tamms, passed away at 9:24 p.m. Friday, July 22, 2011, in Union County Hospital in Anna.
Janette was born Aug. 9, 1938, in Cairo, daughter of the late Roland Pettit Sr., and Anna (Eickelman) Pettit.
Janette owned and operated the Tri-County Building Supply Company in
Tamms, and was a member of the Tamms Volunteer Fire De-partment.
Survivors include a son, Rick (Cindy) Pettit, Waddy, Ky.; a sister, Dot
(Gene) Heater, Livonia, Mich.; a brother, John (Laneta) Pettit, Golden
Eagle; a nephew, James L. Pettit, Tamms; and other nieces, nephews and
relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton M. Chaudoin Oct. 25,
2003; two brothers, Leo and Roland Pettit Jr.; and one sister, Naomi
Thomas.
Services for Janette Chaudoin will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, in
Jones Funeral Home in Tamms, with the Rev. Larry Buckles officiating.
Interment will follow in the Green Lawn Memorial Gardens in Villa
Ridge. Friends may call Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

AKRON, OH–DOROTHY ELLEN CHEW (nee Snyder), 85, died Sunday, December 15, 1996.
She was born in Cairo, Ill., and had retired from nursing at Akron City
Hospital in 1973 with 25 years of service. She was a member of the
Tallmadge First Church of God.
Preceded in death by her husband, Willard, in 1982, she is survived by
her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Marie Chew of Akron; daughter and
son-in-law, Marlene and Donald Kunselman of Berlin Center; seven
grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, George Snyder of
Warren, Preston Snyder of Florida; sisters, Mary Palmer of Akron and
Shirley McAllister of Florida.
Pastor John Phillips will conduct service at the Adams-Mason Memorial
Chapel on Wednesday at 1 p.m., and where friends may call Wednesday
from 11 a.m. until service time. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park.

Cairo, IL.--DEATH CLAIMS ANOTHER OLD CAIRO RESIDENT--JOHN CLANCY, Who Died Saturday Night, Buried Today--Another old Cairoite was called to his reward when death claimed John Clancy. He passed away Saturday evening at 6:30 o'clock at his home, No. 316 Twenty-eighth street. Two years ago Mr. Clancy received a stroke of paralysis from which he never recovered. The deceased was born in County Cork, Ireland, in 1835, and came to this country when 16 years of age, settling first in New York, then in Ohio, and coming to Cairo in 1856. Mr. Clancy was engaged in the hotel and saloon business on lower Ohio street, and after fire destroyed the place, went to Mound City in the employment of the navy yard, later conducting a grocery store at Twelfth and Commercial. In 1891 he erected the building at Twelfth and Commercial, known as the Marble Hall, where he ran a saloon for many years. A dozen years ago he retired from active business. Three sons are left, Dr. Robert E. Clancy, John Clancy, both of Cairo, and George Clancy, who has made quite a reputation on the vaudeville stage. There are also a number of grandchildren. The deceased was an uncle of Mrs. Cowell, wife of Chief of Police Cowell, and of Mrs. John P. Hogan and Mrs. Kate Parker. Funeral services were held this afternoon at St. Patrick's church, and the remains were taken to Villa Ridge cemetery by special train for interment. The pall bearers were John Barry, T. W. Lutesville, Mo.--MRS. ROSA L. CLIFFORD, age 83, died at her home near Lutesville at 12:00 noon May 31. Mrs. Clifford had resided in Cairo until 1920 where she was very active in the First Christian church, charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW Post 2649 and was very active in the Salvation Army. Survivors include one son, Roy of Bertrand, Mo., 2 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, L. O. Clifford in 1922. One son, Leonard, was killed in World War I in July of 1918 and it is for him that the Clifford-Mills-Clendenen VFW Post 2649 is named. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Baker Funeral Home at Lutesville, Mo. Thebes, IL--DANIEL EUGENE CLUBB,
87, of Thebes died Thursday, June 3, 1999 at his home. He was
born Jan. 6, 1912 at Oran, MO, son of Anthony L. and Mary Elizabeth
West Clubb. He and Ruby Marie Dunn were married June 1, 1936 in
Cairo. She died Jan. 13, 1996. Clubb was retired from the
Army Corps of Engineers. He was a member of VFW Post 2210 in Ste.
Genevieve, MO. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include two sons, Bruce Clubb of Thebes, Danny Clubb of
Cape Girardeau, MO; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a
great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by nine
brothers, three sisters, two great-grandchildren and a
great-great-grandchild. Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount
Auburn Chapel from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Funeral will be at 2 p.m.
Monday at the chapel, with the Revs. Danny Clubb, Jr. and Bob Norton

Cape Girardeau, MO--DANNY CLUBB SR.,
71, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Nov 7, 2008 at his home. He
was born July 17, 1937 in Thebes, Ill., son of Daniel Eugene and Ruby
Marie Dunn Clubb. He and Mary L. Holloway were married Nov 8,
1958 in Cape Girardeau. Clubb served in the U. S. Army during the
Korean War. He started with the Cape Girardeau Police Department
in 1961. He left the department in 1978 as a lieutenant. He
then went to work at the Scott City Police Department. He retired
in July 2002 as chief of Police. Survivors include his wife of
Cape Girardeau; two sons, Danny E. Clubb, Jr. of Schererville, IN,
Brian K. Clubb of Festus, MO; a brother, Bruce G. Clubb of Thebes; and
seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and
a daughter. Friends will call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ford and
Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home. Funeral will be at 10 a.m.

53, of Olive Branch died Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at Saint Francis
Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, (MO.) He was born March 13,
1956 in Cairo, Ill., to William Greenley and Mary Josephine Siers
Collins.
Collins worked for Crop Production Service in Olive Branch. He
loved hunting, fishing, boating, riding his Harley and his dog,
Blondie. He was loved by all his friends and acquaintances.
Survivors include a daughter, Lacy Collins of Olive Branch; two
sisters, Joanie (Jim) Kluesner of Jackson (Mo), Julie (Barry) Milton of
Benton, IL; his mother, Jo Collins of Cape Girardeau; his former wife,
Kim Collins of Cobden, Ill.; three nephews, Zach Kluesner of Jackson,
Wade (Heather) Collins of Florida, Joseph (Angie) Milton of Peoria,
Ill.; three nieces, Alli Kluesner of Jackson, Katy Collins of Florida,

Cairo, IL.--JUDGE COMINGS OLD RESIDENT OF CAIRO IS DEAD--Passed Away at Advanced Age Shortly After Midnight Sunday--JUDGE ALFRED COMINGS,
aged 85 years, civil war veteran, former police magistrate, notary
public and school teacher and a popular figure in Cairo, both
politically and socially died this morning at 12:38 o'clock. His death
was due to complications resulting from his advanced age. Judge Comings
had often boasted that he had never been ill and his last sickness was
probably his first. He had been unconscious many hours before his
death. Mr. Comings was born in Cornish, N. H., in 1830 and was
the son of one of New England's old families. In 1862 after the
war of the rebellion had been in progress some months, he enlisted with
Company F, Seventh Illinois Infantry. He was three times married, and
was united with his present wife in 1891. Judge Comings, as an
advocate of Commission Form of Municipal Government in Cairo two years
ago, when the question first came up was a prominent figure. He
was a teacher in the city schools for many years and has held many
official positions having been police magistrate, notary public,
justice of the peace and pension attorney. He held these three
last positions at the time of his death. He was the founder of the
Cairo Building and Loan Association, thirty-six years ago and at that
time was elected secretary of the association and acted in that
capacity up to the time of his death. Judge Comings was also a popular
lodgeman belonging to the Masonic lodge, Eastern Star, I. O. O. F.,
Rebekahs, K. M. K. C., and the G. A.R. In the latter organization
he has always been a prominent figure with other veterans in Cairo and
immediate vicintiy. The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30
o'clock, at the First Methodist church and will be under the auspices
of A. F. and A. M. Lodge No. 237 of Masons. Special interurban
car will leave Eighth street for Beech Grove cemetery at 2:30 o'clock.
The pall bearers are as follows: Active, W. H. Wood, Dan Kelly,
M. J. Howley, F. D. Nellis, Charles Feuchter, Peter Lind and William
Schaatz; Honorary, Henry Zerfass, T. J. Boyd, A. W. Smith and J.

COMINGS WERE HELD TODAY--Large Crowd Attended Service In the Methodist Church--Representatives of the eight organizations of which he was a member, together with a large number of his old friends, gathered at the First Methodist church this afternoon to pay a last tribute to the memory of the late Judge Alfred Comings. Banked upon the pulpit was a solid mass of beautiful flowers, gifts of organizations and friends. Rev. J. W. Cummins, pastor of the church, conducted the funeral, while a quartet composed of Mrs. Bourque, Mrs. Whiting and Messrs. McDougall and Clendenen, sang a number of selections. Cairo, IL.--ELMER E. COMINGS Dies in Chicago--Elmer E. Comings, formerly of Cairo and father of Fred Comings, died in Chicago Friday, where he has been living for a number of years. The remains will be brought down to Beech Grove cemetery for interment Monday morning. Mr. Comings is survived by his widow and six children, four daughters and two sons. Cairo, IL.--VIRGIL N. "SLIM" COOK, 35, died at St. Mary's hospital today of injuries received when he stumbled and fell down the steps of his home at 311 Commercial Avenue on the night of Nov. 13. He suffered a broken jaw and other face and head injuries. Cook was a painter by trade and made his home at 311 Commercial Avenue. He had been a resident of Cairo for the past 15 years. Lysander, NY--PEARL WALTS COOMBE, 88, of 8944 Plainview Road, Lysander, died Friday (June 23, 1995) at Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital.
A native of Cache, Ill., Mrs. Coombe came to Syracuse in 1925. She was
a former housekeeeper at the Hotel Syracuse. She attended Lysander
Methodist Church.
Surviving are a son, Clifford Walts of New York City; a daughter,
Charlotte Grossman of East Syracuse; a sister, Ruby Leonard of
Columbus, Ga.; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three
great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Greenleaf Funeral Home, the Rev.
Thomas Schafer officating. Burial will be in Lysander Union Cemetery.
Calling hours are 10 to 11 a.m. today at the funeral home, 503 W. Onondaga St.

Thebes, IL-- MRS. NORA JANE JACKSON COPLIN,
84 years old of Thebes Illinois died Monday, November 17, 1967,
after a long illness at Anna Hospital. She was a lifetime
resident of Thebes Illinois.
She was born June 17,1883. She married Samuel Henry Coplin on
April 14,1903. They were married 50 years when her husband passed
on April 13, 1953.
Mrs. Coplin is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Lura Bell
Stevenson of Thebes Illinois, Mrs. Amy Verline Fisher of Cobden
Illinois, two sisters, Mrs Nancy Garrett of McClure, Illinois and
Mrs. Nellie Thompson of Cairo Illinois, a brother Harry Jackson of
Villa Grove, Illinois; 17 grandchildren, and 24 great
grandchildren.
Nora was a mid wife for Dr. Phillip. After Dr Phillip
passed Nora was the only "doctor" around. Nora helped deliver
most of Thebes children and surrounding counties. Nora was also
part Illinois Indian and was taught by her mother how to heal people .
The body was held at Steinhagen-Haman in Tamms
Illinois. Funeral services was held at Thebes Baptist Church
with pastor Rev. Alridge. Burial was at Rose Hill Cemetery at
Thebes.
Cairo, IL.--PATRICK CORCORAN, an old citizen of Cairo, died Sept. 29th. His wife died of yellow fever in 1878. He has been a hard working man and a good citizen. Cairo, IL.--MISS LIZZIE COTTER died at her home on Twenty-seventh street last Monday, after a prolonged illness. She was 22 years of age. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at St. Joseph's church, and the remains were conveyed to Villa Ridge for interment. The deceased was the sister of Mr. E. J. Cotter and Miss Maggie Cotter of the New York Store. She had been battling with poor health for a long time. Cairo, IL.--OLD CAIRO CITIZEN HAS PASSED AWAY-- MR. THOMAS COTTER, SR. Died This Morning of Complication of Diseases--Was Born in Ireland and Came to America When a Lad of 14--Survived by
Two Children--Mr. Thomas Cotter, Sr., one of Cairo's oldest and well
known citizens, passed away about 2:45 o'clock this morning at the home
of his daughter, Mrs. Thomas J. Keefe, on lower Washington avenue,
after an illness of nearly four months. His death was due to a
complication of diseases. The past four weeks Mr. Cotter spent at
the home of his daughter, Mrs. Keefe, and for eleven weeks prior to
this time was confined to St. Mary's Infirmary. The deceased had been
able to get about the house until a few days ago, when he was taken
worse and was confined to his bed. Previous to this he sat upon the
front porch every evening with his relatives and was always jovial and
in good spirits. He was very ambitious and never gave way to his
feelings.
Mr. Cotter is survived by two children, Mr. Thomas Cotter, Jr., and
Mrs. Thomas J. Keefe, his wife having died about four years ago.
He was a native of Ireland and was born at Cork, in 1831. He came
to America when a lad of 14 years and settled at Syracuse, N. Y., where
he married several years later. From Syracuse Mr. Cotter and his wife
came to Illinois and settled in this city in 1859, where they have
since resided. They had seven children but all are dead except the two
mentioned above.
The deceased was connected with the Charles Galligher Flour Mills for
thirty-one years and retired from active business life about twelve
years ago, when the mills were destroyed by fire.
Besides his two surviving children, Mr. Cotter is survived by three
half-brothers and a sister who live at Fayetteville, N. Y., besides
three grandchildren, Ward Cotter, of this city, and Val and May Cotter,
of Murphysboro.
The funeral will be held Monday morning at St. Patrick's church, with interment at Villa Ridge cemetery.
The death was a great shock to the relaties and friends to whom he was

Thebes, IL.--VIRTUS MCKEE COX,
82, died at 2:12 p.m. Monday, June 26, 2006 at home. Mrs. Cox was born
Nov. 24, 1923 in Thebes, daughter of the late Sam and Minnie Story. She
was a member of Alexander Freewill Baptist Church, near Olive Branch,
and was a homemaker.
Mrs. Cox was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Burnest Cox in
1996, two sons and a daughter-in-law, Larry McKee, Jerry and Donna
McKee, and a grandson, Larry Don McKee.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Sandra McKee
of Hartford and Terry Lynn and Kim McKee of Cape Girardeau; daughter
and son-in-law, Sissy McKee and Axle Christopher of Cape Girardeau;
stepson, Bobby Cox and wife, Martha of Dyersburg, Tenn.; 12
grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and one
great-great-granddaughter.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 29, 2006 in Alexander
Freewill Baptist Church, near Olive Branch, with Pastor Earnest Brown
officiating. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery. Friends may call
from 5 to 8 p.m. today in Jones Funeral Home in Tamms and after 9:30

Cairo, IL.--DIES AFTER A LONG ILLNESS--JOHN P. CREIGHTON. Well Known Resident Passes Away Tuesday Morning--John P. Creighton, aged 45 years, died after a lingering illness of three months yesterday morning at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Creighton, Sr., 2706 Commercial Avenue. The deceased was well known and previous to his ill health was employed at the Singer plant. The funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at St. Joseph's church, the cortege leaving the house at 1:30. Rev. F. Cairo, IL.--MRS. M. E. CREIGHTON ANSWERS FINAL CALL WITH FAMILY AT SIDE--MRS. MARY E. CREIGHTON died at her home 2706 Commercial Avenue yesterday afternoon after an illness of several months following a number of paralytic strokes. Last April she suffered the first one and was taken to St. Mary's Infirmary. Her condition improving she was removed to her home as she wished to be surrounded by her family. She was a devoted mother, and her family was with her constantly during her illness. Mrs. Creighton was born in Haywood Lancashie, England, and came to this country when quite young, with her parents and resided in Mound City a few years, and later moved to Cairo, where she resided until her death. She was a devout member of St. Joseph's Catholic church and belonged to the Cathoic Knights and Ladies of America. She leaves a husband, Martin Creighton, one daughter, Miss Mayme, three sons, Joseph, Martin, and Mal; an invalid sister, Miss Ellen Cullinan, a brother, Mal Cullinan and four grandchildren. Mrs. Creighton was one of Cairo's most highly esteemed residents. Her death will be mourned by a large circle of friends. The funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon. Kansas City, MO--WILLIAM CROFT, 74, northeast Kansas City, died April 17, 1993, at Veterans Hospital. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Sheil Independence Avenue Chapel; burial in Mount Washington Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel. Mr. Croft was born in Tamms, Ill., and moved to this area 25 years ago. He worked for the ESB Battery Co., retiring in the mid-1980s. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Thebes, IL.--ARBEY CROWN, 90, of Thebes died at 1:15 a.m. Wednesday, Sept 12, 2007 at Monticello House in Jackson, MO. He was born Jan. 31, 1917 in Pocahontas, AR, son of James Emmett and Betty Levil Crown. He married Lois Kelley, who preceded him in death in 1985. He later married Mary Jane Cole Dec 4, 1987. She preceded him in death Dec. 22, 2003. Crown was a member of Alexander Free Will Baptist Church. He worked for the Celeron Oil and Gas Co. near Talft, CA, many years. He loved to fish and hunt. He served his country honorably in the U. S. Army during WWII. Survivors include a stepson, Lynn (Gracie) Cole of Thebes; four stepgrandchildren; nine great-stepgrandchildren; a nephew, Paul (Maxine) Lewis of Machesney Park, IL; two nieces, Brenda (Jim) Larry of Villa Ridge, IL, and Sandy (Bill) Sharp of Olive Branch, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives; three brothers, David, Richard, and Bill Crown; and a sister, Mary Frans. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today (Sept 13,2007) at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms, IL. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday (Sept 14, 2007) at the funeral home with the Rev. Lacie Betts and the Rev. Michael Lynn Sharp officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at Thebes.
McClure, IL--BILLY JOE CROY,
66, of McClure died Monday, Jan. 12, 2009 at Saint Francis Medical
Center in Cape Girardeau, MO. He was born July 26, 1942 in Cairo,
Ill., son of Sid Phillips and Grace Howell. Croy was a lifelong
resident of McClure except when working in a copper mine in Winkelman,
Ariz., for a few years. He also worked at Missouri Dry Dock 15
years. He was a graduate welder being a boilermaker by trade.
He retired because of a disability.
Survivors include two daughters, Rebecca Davis of Hockley, Texas, Mary
Jo Wilson of Hopkinsville, KY; a brother, Charles Croy of McClure; a
sister, Bobbie Woodard of Cape Girardeau; three grandchildren; and a
great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. today at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street
Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau., with the Rev. Robert Smithey Jr.
officiating. Burial will be in Lindsey Cemetery at McClure.
Cairo, IL.--MAZIE C. CROZIER, age 83, a resident of Cairo, Il, formerly of Charleston, died at 3:42pm Sunday, May 1, 1994 at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. She was born March 7, 1922 in Willard, Illinois to the late Carl and Novella Lee Simpson Bauer. She had lived in Cairo since 1963 where she was a member of the Tigert United Methodist Church. She had been employed with the Brown Shoe Company in Charleston until her retirement in 1952. On April 27, 1932 she married Robert L. Crozier, who survives of the home, one son, Carl Crozier, East Prairie; three brothers, Earl Bauer of Olive Branch, Ill, Harry “Jack” Bauer of Cairo, Il and Carl Bauer of Fort Wayne, Indiana; one sister, Fleecy Yates of Willard, Il and also two step grandchildren. One son preceded her in death. Friends may call after 10:30 am Wednesday, May 4, 1994 at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston until the funeral hour of 2pm. Rev. Miller City, IL.--ROBERT M. CROZIER--Funeral services for Robert M. Crozier, age 59 years, who died at his home near Miller City Saturday morning, following a prolonged illness, were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Community Chapel in Willard, with the Rev. Mr. Young officiating. Interment was made in Bumgard cemetery. Karcher Brothers directed the funeral which was attended by scores of friends of Mr. Crozier who was prominent in the community in which he lived. The casket bearers were A. O. Tamms, IL--JIMMIE M. "JIMBO" CRUMLEY, 69, of Wetaug, IL, formerly of Elco, IL, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004 at the Jonesboro Health Care Center, Jonesboro, IL. He was born Sept. 14, 1934 at Elco, son of Archie Crumley and Hester Meisenheimer Crumley Miller. He married Wynona Crumley. Crumley was a retired factory employee with the Dunklin Foundary Company in Alton, IL. Survivors include two brothers, Don Crumley of Wetaug and Bob Crumley of Alton; two step-daughters, Shirley Richards of Santa Fe, TX and Lucy Smith of Godfrey, IL; six grandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren. Crumley was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and an infant sister. Friends may call at the Jones Funeral Home in Tamms from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Ill., she moved to the Tampa area in 1925. She was a homemaker and a
member of Christian Science Church.

sister, Ornell Crumpton, Brandon; three grandchildren; and seven
grandchildren.
