This was a two-room, sometimes three-room school, and other times they only used one room. It was located between Tamms and Elco on what was known as the Old Elco Road that branched off toward Ullin. The 1883 History of Alexander County states that the Hazlewood Schoolhouse is near J. F. Short's and was built in 1881. In the early 1920s it is believed that the school burned and was replaced around that time. While they were rebuilding the students attended school in a building near the Joseph Lentz place. In the late 1920s there were as many as 40 students in the school.
