SANDUSKY

Alexander County/Illinois Genealogy Trails

Sandusky was established along the narrow guage railroad where the lumber interests predominated. There were three sawmills; one owned by George Freeze of Elco Precinct, one was operated by St. Louis parties and the third by a gentleman of Pulaski County. The village had one store and one saloon in the 1880s. It was known at one time as Helena.
