LEON J. ELBUS
Mt. Sterling, Illinois:

Leon J. Elbus age 85 a resident of Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Mt. Sterling passed away at 4:35 a.m. Sunday, May 16, 2004 at the nursing home.
He was born January 19, 1919 in Mt. Sterling the son of Joseph William and Bertha Marie Koch Elbus.
Mr. Elbus worked for Paper Box in Quincy, Illinois for 4 years and at Caterpillar in Peoria, Illinois as a tool grinder for several years. He then retired from Fiat Allis in Springfield, Illinois after 12 years, where he also worked as a tool grinder.
He attended Hazel Dell School in Brown County and graduated from Mt. Sterling High School.
Mr. Elbus was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling. He was also a member of the Knight of Columbus Council No. 1281 and earlier in life enjoyed riding motorcycles.
Survivors include 1 sister Lucille Wagner of Mt. Sterling and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister Mary A. Cullivan Allen and 1 brother George Laverne Elbus.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 19, 2004 in the Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling with Father Thomas Henseler officiating.
Burial will be in the Mt. Sterling Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 Tuesday evening at the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling. A rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Friends may also call from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to St. Mary s School or the Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice.

MARY ESELA
Mt. Sterling, Illinois:

Mary J. Esela age 65 of Mt. Sterling passed away at 3:35 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2004 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Illinois.
She was born March 13, 1938 in Brown County, Illinois the daughter of Clemons Mick and Lucille Ashbaker Rang. She married Charles J. Chuck Esela on October 26, 1957 at St. Joseph s Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling and he preceded her in death on May 13, 1991.
Mrs. Esela worked as a clerk and pharmacy technician for O Neil s Store Inc. in Mt. Sterling for 19 years.
She graduated from St. Mary s Academy with the Class of 1956. Mrs. Esela was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling.
Survivors include 4 children Jim Esela and his wife Tammy of Mt. Sterling, Penney Chapman of Mt. Sterling and her fiancé Craig Seaman of Beardstown, Teresa Graglia and her husband Erik of Marinette, Wisconsin and Angie Jennings and her husband Mark of Mt. Sterling. 1 brother William Rang and his wife Cecilia of Mt. Sterling. 2 grandsons J.J. and Jeremy Esela both of Mt. Sterling. 1 granddaughter Abigail Graglia of Marinette, Wisconsin. 3 step grandchildren Nikki and Joshua Jennings of Mt. Sterling and Brooke Jennings of Lombard, Illinois. An aunt and uncle Mary and Allen Stout of Camp Point also survive along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and 1 brother Raymond Rang.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 5, 2004 in the Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling with Father John Kennedy officiating.
Burial will be in the Mt. Sterling Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. on Monday at the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling.
Memorials are suggested to St. Mary s School.
