PARKER, Hettie (Carpenter) Orr 1899 - 1982
HETTIE (CARPENTER) ORR PARKER , age 83, of Perry, died Saturday morning, June 19, 1982 at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville. Mrs Parker was born in Brown County Jan. 14, 1899, a daughter of Albert and Hettie Taylor Carpenter. She married Lee Orr and he died in 1966. Survivors include three daughters: Mrs Robert (Zelma) Sweeting, Sierra Vista, Az; Mrs Melvin (Virginia) Lanier, rural Chambersburg; and Mrs George (Kate) Griggs, Versailles; a son, Perry Orr, [of] Perry; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; five sisters; Mrs Lennie Wade, Mrs Mae Smith, Mrs Ethel Little, Mrs Thelma Weggs and Mrs Alberta Buckshot, all of Mt Sterling; and two brothers, Ray Carpenter, Nevada and Roy Carpenter, Denver, Colo. She was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Carpenter. Mrs Parker was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses. Services were 2 p.m. Tuesday at Skinner Funeral Home in Griggsville with Eldon Walters, minister.
Burial was in Morrellville cemetery ["in Brown County" was added by Evelyn Smith.vgb]

MATTIE PASSMORE
Mt. Sterling, Illinois:

Mattie B. Passmore age 85 of Mt. Sterling passed away at 2:06 a.m. Sunday, February 15, 2004 at the Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Mt. Sterling.
She was born September 22, 1918 in Arlburg, Arkansas the daughter of Thomas and Lucinda McKinney Delk. She married Oles N. Passmore on May 18, 1941 in Stone County, Arkansas and he preceded her in death on April 11, 1982.
Mrs. Passmore was a homemaker and had attended the Baptist Church in Flag, Arkansas. She always enjoyed quilting, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
Survivors include 3 children Leroy Passmore and his wife Sharon of Mt. Sterling, Leon Passmore and his wife Ruby of Mt. Sterling and Frances Collins and her husband Leroy of Mountain View, Missouri. 12 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren also survive along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers, 1 sister and 1 granddaughter Karen Collins.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 18, 2004 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling with Rev. Dan Edwards officiating.
Burial will be in the Hersman Cemetery south of Mt. Sterling.
Friends may call any time after 3:00 p.m. Tuesday with the family meeting friends from 6 until 8 Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Friends may also call from 8 a.m. until time of services on Wednesday.

FREDDIE W. PATE
Mt. Sterling, Illinois:

Freddie W. Pate age 86 a resident of the Illinois Veteran s Home in Quincy, Illinois and formerly of Mt. Sterling passed away at 10:35 p.m. Sunday, February 1, 2004 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.
He was born December 6, 1917 in Beardstown, Illinois the son of Fred Walter and Rosie Katherine Schmidt Pate. He married Cora Ann Pate and she preceded him in death.
Mr. Pate worked for Caterpillar for several years.
He was a veteran of World War II having served his country in the United States Army. Mr. Pate was a member of the Mt. Sterling American Legion Post #374.
Survivors include 1 brother Gerald Pate of Meredosia and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother Leroy Pate and 5 sisters Stella Lidgard, Cordelia Walker, Leona Pate, Alberta Cochran and Dorothy Kalb.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 4, 2004 in the Hersman Cemetery south of Mt. Sterling with Rev. Matt Martin officiating. Military services will be conducted at the graveside. There will be no visitation.

BETTY L. BOWEN PATTERSON
Mt. Sterling, Illinois:

Betty L. Bowen Patterson age 58 a resident of Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Mt. Sterling and formerly of Quincy passed away at 5:20 p.m. Friday, September 3, 2004 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.
She was born March 20, 1946 in Quincy, Illinois the daughter of Cecil John and AlGreta Mae Viar Bowen. She married Merle Gene Patterson in November of 1990 in Quincy, Illinois and he preceded her in death in 1991.
Betty was a clerical worker for Western Insurance Company in both St. Louis and Quincy.
She attended Quincy Schools and graduated from Quincy High School with the Class of 1964. She was a member of a Non Denominational Religion. Betty served as an inspiration to all who met her for the graceful way she dealt with her disability. She enjoyed visiting with family and friends and had a love for collecting anything to do with chickens.
Survivors include 1 son Anthony Bowen of Quincy. Her father Cecil Bowen of Payson. 2 brothers Charles Edward Bowen and his wife Linda and David Alan Bowen and his wife Verna all of Quincy. 1 sister Linda Lee Bowen of St. Louis, Missouri also survives along with several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, including her loving aunt and devoted caregiver Veda Hall of Mt. Sterling.
She was preceded in death by her mother, step mother Esther Bowen and 1 brother Cecil Wayne Bowen in infancy.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 8, 2004 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling.
Burial will be in the Hersman Cemetery south of Mt. Sterling.
Visitation will be from 4 until 8 Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Friends may also call from 8 a.m. until time of services on Wednesday.



JEFF PEACOCK
Mt. Sterling, Illinois:

Jeffrey Bruce Peacock age 25 of Mt. Sterling passed away at 11:40 p.m. Saturday, April 10, 2004 in rural Brown County from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was born October 13, 1978 in Rushville, Illinois the son of Jeffrey L. and Patty Ann Pulse Peacock.
Jeff worked in truck maintenance for Dave Clinard Truck Service in Mt. Sterling for several years. He had also worked for a short time at C & L Tiling and during high school he worked for Dot Foods.
He attended Brown County Schools and graduated from Brown County High School with the Class of 1997.
Jeff loved his family, friends and fishing, but his greatest love was his daughter, Taylor.
Survivors include 1 daughter Taylor Jade Peacock of Mt. Sterling. His mother Patty Ann Pulse Henken and her husband Buck of Mt. Sterling. His father Jeff L. Peacock and his wife Judy of Normal, Illinois. His maternal grandmother Virginia Pulse of Mt. Sterling. His paternal grandparents John and Carol Peacock of Rushville, Illinois and Harry Hamm of Reno, Nevada. His maternal great grandmother Maxine Peacock of Rushville, Illinois. 1 stepbrother Chad Henken of Mt. Vernon, Illinois and 1 half brother Derek Coats of Virginia, Illinois also survives along with several cousins, aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Bruce Pulse, 1 aunt Susie Pulse Bowen, 1 uncle Michael Pulse and his great grandparents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2004 in the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling with Rev. Bill Edwards officiating.
Burial will be in the Mt. Sterling City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00 on Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Friends may also call from 8 a.m. until time of services on Wednesday.

Helen Roberta McClelland Phillips

Helen Roberta Phillips, 94, of Rushville, passed away at 10:20 AM, Thursday, April 12, 2007 at Culbertson Long Term Care Facility in Rushville. She was born on August 26, 1912 in Brown County, Illinois, the daughter of the late William Arthur and Emma Gesina (Saxer) McClelland. She married Sammie Marvin Phillips on February 27, 1932 at the parsonage of the First United Methodist Church in Rushville and he preceded her in death on November 16, 1983.
Helen taught school for two years, was a homemaker and worked in the high school cafeteria. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Rushville, where she served as President of the United Methodist Women, as a delegate for the District Conferences and taught Sunday school. A
member of the Schuyler Home Extension, she was the leader Blue Ribbon 4-H club for many years. She enjoyed quilting, sewing and flowers but more importantly her family.
Surviving are two sons Marvin Phillips and wife Ruth and Donald Phillips and wife Karen all of Rushville, two daughters Karen Trone of Edwardsville, and Joyce Heitz and husband Dennis of Rushville, daughter-in-law Mary Lou Phillips of Rushville, ten grandchildren Danny Phillips and wife Debbie, Lynn Gorsuch and husband Randy, Steve Phillips and wife Dee, Gina Priewe and husband Mark, LeAnn White and husband Bob, Jill Trone and husband Bill, Tim Phillips and wife Vicki, Sherry Heitz, Mark Trone and wife Toni, and Brad Heitz, 17 great grandchildren Ben Phillips and
wife Layne, Megan Gorsuch, Brian Littleton, Matthew Priewe, Chris Phillips, Kimberly Gorsuch, Kara Priewe, Sarah Littleton, Cameron Priewe, Whitney Phillips, Mallory Phillips, Emma Trone, Jessica Trone, Jordan Trone, Brandi Patch, Bridget Patch, Lily Trone, 4 great great grandchildren Caleb Quinn, Javen Quinn, Addison Phillips, Jade Vanatta, and a brother Charles McClelland and wife Mary of Mt. Sterling and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son Dale Phillips, one brother Herman McClelland, and two sisters Ruth McClelland and Wilma Bean.
Services will be at 10:30 AM Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at the First United Methodist Church in Rushville with Revs. Mary and Paul Arnold officiating. Interment will follow in the Rushville City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM Monday at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville.



ROBERT BOB PHILLIPS
Mt.Sterling, Illinois:

Robert L. Bob Phillips, age 72, of Mt. Sterling, Illinois passed away at 11:00 a.m. Sunday, June 6, 2004 at his residence.
He was born March 7, 1932 in Brown County near Buckhorn, the son of Harvey and Sarah Vina Kirgan Phillips. He married Edith R. Ennen on June 24, 1956 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Quincy, Illinois, and she survives.
Mr. Phillips worked as a machinist for Electric Wheel in Quincy for 20 years retiring in 1983. He then worked as custodian of the Brown County Courthouse, retiring in 2000. Mr. Phillips had also worked as a carpenter and was engaged in farming.
He attended Brown county rural schools and was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Mt.Sterling.
Mr. Phillips was a true nature lover and he always enjoyed gardening, but his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Edith R. Phillips of Mt.Sterling, 5 children Sharon Cleaves of Quincy and her husband John of Clayton, Terry Phillips and his wife Susan of Shelbyville, Indiana, Darryl Phillips of Mt.Sterling, Kathy Boyd and her husband Scott of Mt.Sterling, and Steven Phillips of Mt.Sterling. 5 Grandchildren Joseph Cleaves, Lacey Rardon and her husband J.R., Shane Cleaves, Caitlin Phillips, and Haley Boyd. 1 step grandson Ryan Boyd .1 great grandson Jacob Rardon. 2 sisters Laverne DeJaynes and Velma Martin both of Mt.Sterling also survive along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters Helen Phillips, Nettie May Phillips, Opal Marie Phillips and Dollie Shoemaker and 1 brother Arthur Wilbert Phillips.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2004 at the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt.Sterling with Rev. Joseph Eckman officiating. Burial will be in the Clayton South Side Cemetery in Clayton, Illinois. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 on Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Friends may also call from 8 a.m. until time of services on Wednesday.
Memorials are suggested to the Blessing Foundation for Hospice or to the Mt.Sterling First Lutheran Church.

Hoyt Pruden
MOUNT STERLING - Hoyt John Pruden, 81, of Mount Sterling died at 7:25 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 1995, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
Born Oct. 31, 1914, in Brown County to John Ola and Nora Boss Pruden, he married Mary Sorrells on July 17, 1940, in Palmyra, Mo. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Gary of Versailles; one daughter, Sandra Jones of Huntsville, Ala.; one brother, Cecil of Versailles; one sister, Amy Logsdon of Ripley; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. One brother and two sisters preceded him in death.
He was a retired farmer and plumber He was a member of Odd Fellows Lodge of Versailles.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hufnagel Funeral Home. The Rev. Tom Ross will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight and two hours before services, both at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hersman Cemetery in Hersman.
