Died in Wheatland, Bureau county, July 31 of dropsy of the chest, Richard R. Vail, 62 - interment in Henry cemetery.
Richard R. Vail, a prominent farmer and citizen of Lone Tree, Bureau county, died at his residence on Sunday last. His disorder was dropsy of the heart and chest. He was a native of New Jersey, and married a Miss Brokaw of that state, a sister of Jasper Brokaw, the furniture dealer now of Maquon, Knox county. The wife and children are bereft of a most devoted husband and fond father. He was of Quaker parentage, a peaceful citizen, kind neighbor and successful farmer, amassing quite an estate. Rev. O. L. Barler the New Church clergyman of Chicago was telegraphed for to officiate at the funeral, but being absent from home, Rev. H. R. Metcalf of Whitefield M. E. circuit was invited to conduct the services, which were held at the residence on Tuesday forenoon, which was attended by a large concourse of his old neighbors and friends. His age was 62.
