2nd Lieut. Samuel C. Campbell Son of Samuel and Sarah J. Campbell, born at Marissa, Illinois, September 30, 1884; volunteered for service at Camp Taylor, Kentucky May 15, 1918, serving in 2nd Co. 4th O. T. S. 84th Division and 17th Co. 5th Training Battalion, 158th D. B.

Sergeant Charles H. Carley Son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred S. Carley, born at Mt. Carroll, Illinois July 29, 1895; inducted for service at Mt. Carroll, Illinois September 19, 1917 and served in the Medical Department, Base Hospital, Camp Sheridan, Alabama.

Private Frederick R. Carley Son of Fred S. and Belle M. Carley, born at Mt. Carroll, Illinois March 9th, 1892; volunteered for service at Jefferson Barracks, Mo., May 24th, 1917; served in the 304th Cavalry and 54th Field Artillery.







1st. Lieut. Walter E. Clay Son of Daniel R. Clay, born at Willow, Illinois in May, 1869; volunteered for service at Mt. Carroll, Illinois May 8th, 1918, serving in the Medical Corps at Camp Wadsworth, S. C., Camp Johnson, Florida; Port Terminal, Charleston, S. C. Note: His date of birth is definitely May 1869, but I wonder if it isn’t really 1896 and transposed. He would have been 49 years old in 1918, and he doesn’t look that old in the photo.

Captain Samuel P. Colehour Son of Mr. and Mrs. S. P. Colehour, born at Mt. Carroll, Illinois November 27, 1875; volunteered for service April 9, 1918 at Fort Riley, Kansas; served overseas 11 months with Mobile Hospital No. 5. With 3rd Army Corps in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive.








Fred E. Coleman - no photo - Son of Mr. and Mrs. John Coleman, born at Mt. Carroll, Illinois; inducted for service at Camp Grant, Illinois October, 1917; served in the Cavalry and Battery D, 54th Field Artillery.

Private 1CL Stewart Cotter Son of John and May Day Taplin Cotter, born at Sterling, Iowa May 19, 1899; volunteered for service at Davenport, Iowa September 5, 1917; served nearly 18 months overseas with Battery B. 15th Field Artillery on the Troyon Sector, Aisne Defensive, Chateau Thierry, Aisne-Marne, Marbache, St. Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne Offensives. Served in the Army of Occupation at Coblenz Bridgehead with the 2nd Division.

George Franklin Councilman Son of Edward (deceased) and Teresa Councilman, born at Chicago, Ill., July 9, 1896. Inducted into the service and sent to Syracuse, N. Y., from there he was sent overseas as a member of Co. B. 11th Platoon 2nd Detachment, Army Service Corps, A. E. F. Returned to America and died in hospital at Hoboken, N. Y., May 11, 1919, and is buried at Mt. Carroll, Illinois.

Private Richard Dale Son of Joseph and Sarah Dale, born at Mt. Carroll, Illinois in August 1890; inducted for service at Mt. Carroll, Illinois September 19, 1917; served overseas 12 months with Co. B. 108th Engineers on the Somme, Meuse-Argonne, Troyon-sur-Meuse and St. Hilain and served in the Army of Occupation in Luxembourg and West Germany.








Private Wilbur D. Davis - no photo - Born at Mt. Carroll, Illinois; inducted for service at Camp Grant, Illinois in 1917; served overseas in the 33rd Division.

Sergeant Cecil Sheldon DeNier Son of Albert and Jane DeNier, born at Lima, Iowa May 24, 1894; inducted for service at Cresco, Iowa July 26, 1918, serving with 5th Infantry Replacement Regiment, Camp Gordon, Georgia.

Private Wallace Leslie Derrer Son of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Derrer, born at Stockton, Illinois April 9, 1895; volunteered for service at Chicago, Illinois December 20, 1917. Served in the Veterinary Corps, caring for horses being transported to France.

Private 1CL Clifford Deyo Son of Frederick and George E. Deyo, born at Dixon, Illinois in July 1899; volunteered for service July 28, 1917 at Rockford, Illinois, serving 10 months overseas with Co. K. 129th Infantry, 33rd Division on the Somme, Verdun, Albert, St. Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne. Was quite badly gassed in one of the above mentioned battles which has greatly impaired his health.

Ralph Melvin Eaton Son of Ralph Elmer (Deceased) and Lucy Mae Eaton, born at Mt. Carroll, Illinois May 12, 1899; volunteered for Student Army Training Corps at University of Illinois September, 1918.

Private Earle E. Edmonds Son of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Edmonds, born at Mt. Carroll, Illinois May 3, 1899; volunteered for service at Omaha, Nebraska, September 18, 1918, and served in the Ordinance Department. Mr. Edmonds has again re-enlisted and serving in France.

Private Freeman Eisenbise Son of John and Emma Eisenbise of Mt. Carroll, Ill., born in Freedom Township Carroll County, Ill. January 8, 1889. Inducted into the service and placed in Co. G. 64th Infantry, 7th Division. Arrived in France September 20, 1918. Died in hospital at Langres, France September 23, 1918.



Corporal Sherman Edwin Elliott Son of Robert and Mary Elliott, born at Mt. Carroll, Illinois December 28, 1890; inducted for service at Mt. Carroll, Illinois September 19, 1917; serving with Motor transport Co., 349, Camp Logan, Houston, Texas.

Corporal Paul L. Emmert Foster son of F. E. Emmert, born at Griggsville, Illinois August 7, 1893; volunteered for service at Rock Island, Illinois June 1, 1917; served 12 months overseas with the 123rd Heavy Field Artillery, 33rd Division, participating in St. Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne Offensives. Served in the Army of Occupation in Luxembourg.

Private 1Cl Harry M. Everhart Son of Mr. and Mrs. Everhart, born at Mt. Carroll, Illinois July 5, 1895 (Headstone says July 7); Headstone Photo inducted for service at Savanna, Illinois May 4, 1918; served overseas 11 months with Co. B. 20th Machine Gun Battalion, 7th Division, on the Puvenelle Sector.






Fireman 1CL Harvey Kyle Eyler Son of Charles M. and Lillian E. Eyler, born at Mt. Carroll, Illinois May 26, 1896; volunteered for service at Des Moines, Iowa in June, 1917; in several engagements with submarines, serving on board the U. S. S. Mt. Vernon from September 9, 1917 to May 6, 1918; U. S. S. Bill, a destroyer, from July 15, 1918 to September 4, 1919. Had 5 months convoy duty.

Lewis P. Ferris Son of Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Ferris, of Mt. Carroll. Born at Savanna, Ill., July 24, 1892. Volunteered for service February 25, 1918 and was sent to Camp Grant, Ill. Served in Motor Truck Co. 435. Was transferred to Camp Joseph, at Jacksonville, Florida where he died May 25, 1918.

Private Robert Andrew Ferris Son of Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Ferris, born at Savanna, Illinois; inducted for service at Mt. Carroll, Illinois June 14, 1918. Served at the Sweeney Motor School and later with Battery A. 139th Field Artillery, 38th Division. Overseas 3 months.






Vernon Foster Son of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Foster, born at Mt. Carroll, Illinois; volunteered for Student Army Training Corps at Beloit College, Beloit, Wisconsin in 1918.

2nd Lieut. Ralph L. Frazer Son of Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Frazer, born at Bird City, Kansas August 1891; volunteered for service at Jefferson Barracks, MO. August 18, 1917, and served with 6th Sanitary train; 4th Officers Training School and 2nd U. S. Infantry
