Private Leo Carl Nast Son of Charles and Emma Nast, born at Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin; volunteered for service at Chicago, Illinois May 9, 1917; served overseas 11 months with the 78th Field Artillery. Served in the Army of Occupation in Germany.

C. W. Nellis Served with the Signal Corps as U. S, Inspector of Air planes and Engines at Detroit, Michigan. Entered the service May 1918 and served until August 1919. Mr. Nellis was beyond the age limit but his knowledge and experience was so necessary to the government that special provision was made in his case.

Private John Ira Nesbitt Son of Charles and Agnes Nesbitt, born at Savanna, Illinois in July 1891; volunteered for service at Jefferson Barracks, Mo. December 15th, 1917, in the Aviation section.






Private Clyde W. Nettleton Son of Mr. and Mrs. William Nettleton, born at Savanna, Illinois December 21, 1894; inducted for service at Savanna, Illinois July 31, 1918; served with 341st Guard and Fire Company.

Frank S. Nicoletti Son of Mrs. Emma Nicoletti, born in Italy in 1895; inducted for service at Savanna, Illinois May 25, 1918; served in Co. 6, Camp Gordon. Mr. Nicoletti is a naturalized citizen of the United States.

Private Carmello Nogora Son of Carmelo and Paul Nogora, born at Calascibetta, Province, Italy June 14, 1890; inducted into the service at Savanna, Illinois April 25, 1918. Served with Co. C. 8th Infantry, 15th Division. Served at Camp Logan, Texas.

Sergeant James Adam Nolan Son of William and Cathrine Nolan, born at Savanna, Illinois June 3, 1890; volunteered for service at Chicago, Illinois May 27, 1917; served overseas 19 months with the 13th Engineers and 1st Brigade Light Tanks, participating in the St. Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne Offensives.



Wagoner Wilbur James North Son of George and Maggie North, born at Pleasant Valley, Illinois. Inducted into the service at Savanna, Illinois June 1, 1918. Served in Infantry.

Private Albert C. Notz Son of Christopher and Marie Notz, born at Savanna, Illinois February 1892. Inducted into service at Jefferson Barracks, Mo. May 24, 1918. Served with 44th Field Artillery at Camp Stanly, Texas.

Horseshoer Jeremiah O’Leary Son of Mr. and Mrs. John O’Leary, born at County Cork, Ireland, August 16, 1900; volunteered for service at Chicago, Illinois May 14, 1915; served in the 19th Infantry.

Private Lawrence J. O’Neale Son of Mr. and Mrs. John O’Neal, born at Savanna, Illinois; volunteered for service December 19, 1917 and served overseas with the 123rd Heavy Field Artillery. (Note: I have transcribed this exactly, with the spelling discrepancy of O’Neal/O’Neale.)

Sergeant Alfred McEwen Pierce Son of George A. and Alice I. Pierce, born at Savanna, Illinois September 23, 1885. Volunteered for service at Rock Island Arsenal. Served with 12th Light Mobile Ordinance Repair Shop and at Ordinance Motor and Instruction School.

Gunners Mate Irvin Plattenberger Son of Jacob P. Plattenberger, born at Savanna, Illinois August 15, 1892; volunteered for service April 27, 1912. Reenlisted November 16, 1916 at Chicago and Des Moines. In first enlistment, served on U. S. S. Kansas. Second enlistment served on U. S. S. Rainbow, Torpedo boats U. S. S. Manley and Dickerson. At present is serving on the U. S. S. Dickerson.

Captain John Edward Powell Son of Samuel B and Anne Powell, born at Trempealean, Wisconsin May 18, 1974; volunteered for service at Chicago, Illinois June 14, 1918; served overseas 12 months with Co. B. 60th Engineers and 68th Company Transportation Corps. Master Mechanic of 3rd Division Advance Section So. O. S. Liffol Le Grande, France.



Private 1CL Dan Webster Quinn Son of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Webster Quinn, born at Morrison, Illinois. Inducted for service at Savanna, Illinois February 24, 1918 and served overseas 10 months. (Note: I was intrigued by how young Dan Webster Quinn looks in the photo, so I checked the WWI Draft Registration Cards 1917-1918, available through Ancestry.com. It shows a Dan Webster Quinn who was inducted in Carroll County, Illinois and who signed the Registrar’s Report June 15, 1917 and gave his date of birth as April 18, 1895. So they apparently used a photo of him as a teenager, taken well before he registered.)
