Mrs. W. A. Adams, Thomson, Ill.
The very patriotic and efficient Secretary of the Thomson Red Cross.

Red Cross Nurse - Bertha Mary Alexander, Thomson, Ill. Daughter of Cyrus Hall Alexander and Ellen Maude Livingstone of Thomson, Ill., born at Thomson, Ill. Volunteered for service in the American Red Cross May 16, 1917 at Chicago, Ill. Served in U. S. A. Base Hospital No. 12. Overseas service two years. At present living in Harlowton, Montana.

Mrs. Ruth LaShelle, Shannon, Ill. Daughter of Susan and James Osborne, born at Stony Point, N. Y. March 18, 1864. Became Chairman of Shannon Branch of Red Cross July 10, 1917. Active in all branches of war work and an extremely efficient chairman.





Red Cross Nurse - Lucille Elizabeth Porter, Shannon, Ill.
Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Newton Porter, born at Brookville, Ill. October 28, 1893. Volunteered for service as a Red Cross Nurse September 1, 1917 at Des Moines, Iowa. Served in Base Hospital, Camp Bowle, Texas. At present located at Des Moines, Iowa.

Mrs. O. H. Rahn of Chadwick, Ill.
Daughter of Mahlon and Emma Burket, born at Somerset, Pa. November 27, 1890. Educated at Somerset High School, Normal School. Married to Oscar H. Rahn of Chadwick, Illinois. Active war worker and for four years Secretary of the Red Cross of Chadwick and is the present Secretary.

Mrs. Burget Runnels, Milledgeville, Ill. Amy Leona Hendrick, daughter of Mary and Stephen V. Hendrick of Dixon, Ill. Married June 20, 1908 to Dr. Burget Runnels of Milledgeville, Ill. Became Chairman of Milledgeville Branch of Red Cross June 29, 1917. A very efficient and capable leader in the work.


Harvey L. Spealman, Chadwick, Ill. Son of Emanuel and Margery Spealman, born at Fair Haven Township, Carroll County, Illinois March 18, 1877. Attended Dixon College, 1895, Northwestern University. Married Miss Olive J. Stover of Chadwick, 1901. Mason, Eastern Star, Shriner, Sterling Lodge No. 18 B. P. O. E. Mayor Chadwick 1913-1915. Village Trustee 1901-1904. Served on registration board of township, 1917. Assisted with organization of Chadwick branch of Red Cross and was elected as first Chairman, serving from 1917-1918 and elected Chairman of Carroll County Red Cross from 1917 to February 1919. Member of Council of Defense and Local Fuel Administrator during the war.

Dr. G. W. Turner of Savanna, Chairman of the Carroll County Red Cross succeeded Mr. H. L. Spealman of Chadwick, who had so ably effected this organization throughout the County. Dr. Turner has practiced Dentistry at Savanna for the past twenty six years and is well known through the County. He was appointed Dental Examiner by the United States Public Health service as the government proposes to put the teeth of Ex-Service men in perfect condition at the expense of the government. During the war, Dr. Turner was a member of the Preparedness League of American Dentists.

Red Cross Nurse - Elsie May Withhart, Savanna, Ill. Daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Fred P. Withhart, born at Savanna, Illinois March 16, 1892. Volunteered for service with American Red Cross June 14, 1918 at Rockford, Ill. Served with Army Nurse Corps and at present on duty at Camp Lee, Virginia.





The Red Cross Home Service Department is rendering a valuable service to our boys, maintaining a paid secretary to furnish any information or assistance upon any matter.
