Carroll County Anniversaries
Fifty Years or More

George & Rosa Belle (Fahrney) Olmsteadt
50th Wedding Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. George Olmstead, highly esteemed residents of Carroll county all their lives, quietly observed their golden wedding anniversary Thursday at their comfortable home in Milledgeville. Relatives and friends called to offer congratulations and extend best wishes for more happy returns of the day. In the evening the couple entertained at a two course dinner which was served by Mrs. Florence Fahrney and Mrs. Alice Mitchell. Table decorations were bouquets of yellow chrysanthemums, an anniversary gift received by Mr. and Mrs. Olmstead.

Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. George Olmstead, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Fahrney and son William, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Mitchell, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Derr and daughter Verna, Earl Derr and daughter Ramona, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Olmstead, Mr. and Mrs. William Karrow, Miss Blanch and Harold Hawkins, and Mrs. Emma Wolf of Milledgeville, Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Dahler of Clinton, Ia., and Mr. and Mrs. Forest Olmstead and children of Penrose. Mr. Olmstead was born November 14, 1857, and his wife on April 11, 1862, their parents being Mr. and Mrs. Alanson Olmstead and Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Fahrney.

They were united in marriage October 23, 1880 in Mt. Carroll by Rev. Flickinger, a pastor of the Church of the Brethren. For a number of years Mr. and Mrs. Olmstead farmed in the vicinity of Milledgeville and 21 years ago moved into town. Mr. Olmstead opened a cobbler shop to occupy himself, and still continues in that business. They are both members of the Methodist church of Milledgeville. Mr. Olmstead made some of the bricks that were used for the first buildings in the city. Both Mr. and Mrs. Olmstead are enjoying fairly good health and take an active interest in what goes on in their community.
