She never married and is believed to have lived with her two brothers, Arthur Collan Bawden (who was a dentist
in Mt. Carroll) and Steven Richard Bawden (who sold dental supplies) in their family home on North Clay Street in Mt. Carroll.
Grace was a painter who taught painting at Frances Shimer College in Mt. Carroll.
Its unknown how long she taught there or if she also graduated from Frances Shimer.
She probably started painting in the late 1880s and may have studied at the Art Institute in Chicago.

This particular portrait/painting of who we believe to be Grace Bawden, is in the hands
of one Mary Olden. The painter is unknown at this time. If anyone has any further information be sure and let us know.
