From the Goodly Heritage -

David Boyd was born in Maryland in 1824 and came to Illinois when he was 21 years old. Details of his early life were not recorded but he was married three times and with his second wife had six children, with his third, five were born. Only survivor of the eleven children is Mrs. Grace Gsell of Pearl City.

Mr. Boyd and his growing family lived on a farm he owned in Cherry Grove township from which he retired at the age of sixty-nine to his home in Shannon where he resided until his death in January, 1903. The Boyd home is now owned by Mrs. Frank Heisler.

Seventeen children were born to the immediate descendants of David Boyd; those living in this vicinity are Glenn Boyd, Milledgeville; Robert and Preston Boyd, Savanna; Elizabeth Keefer, Mt. Carroll; Virginia Croffoot, Pearl City; Lucille Schick, Polo and Edith Weigle of Shannon.

To these second generation relatives in this community 13 children were born, however, the only survivors to carry on the name of Boyd are the sons of Robert and Preston of Savanna.
